View Full Version : LZ32.DLL being removed/harmed

Recently, whenever I try to install/uninstall some programs, or try to access "and/remove Windows Components" from my Add/Remove Programs panel, and possibly other things, I get an error saying "This application has failed to start because LZ32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

In my System32 Folder, the file is there however. I read somewhere that this is probably because the file is being damaged by a virus or spyware. I can find no fix anywhere, and am hoping you guys can help.

I have tried getting the LZ32.DLL file from my Windows Disk, and putting it into the system32 folder replacing the other one, but whenever I do ANYTHING to the "broken" LZ32.DLL" file, I get an error saying "Cannot [action] lz32: data error (cyclic redundancy test)."

This is quite frustating, because its preventing me from installing and uninstalling some programs.

Also, I don't know if this is a side effect of this, but windows seems to be loading slower than usual for me.

Spybot reports that I have no spyware on my computer.

I can post a Hijackthis log, but it looked clean to me (but then I'm not knowledgable really when it comes to those, so if its of use, I can post it here)

Thanks for any help that can be offered

I have unfortunately tried all the steps in that post :(

My computer comes up clean, yet I am unable to remove or edit my current LZ32.DLL to add in a working one.. and thus unable to install or uninstall various programs.. :(

Since we have no way of knowing if malware is at fault in any way, even though tashi, Member of Team Spybot made the suggestion to provide that information and you seem to have ignored her, I will make a couple of suggestions anyway, even though it seems you did not even provide us with an Operating System.

I was not trying to ignore tashi.. I did follow every step in the post she linked. The only one I didn't follow is posting my system log, but I read in a sticky I was not allowed to do that, I'm sorry if this was wrong, I was just trying to follow the rules.. could you please explain where I went wrong? I'm kinda confused

As for your first link, it only applies to windows 98 and 95.

The second one is a similiar issue, but not the same one I am experiencing.

The third, I've already searched the first 15 pages of google, and got little to no information.

As for your last link, I guess those people will be better to help me, as its looking like this problem may not be Malware anymore.

I appologize if I did something wrong, but thanks alot for your help!!
