My GFs computer has been infected with a malware that hijacks all browser activity and will not allow potentially helpful processes to run. I am completely stuck. Please help.

Joe

I could not post an HJT log because this is one of the many processes that the malware will not allow to run. I can download things and browse with FireFox, but can run nothing (not even CMD, task manager) and cannot surf on IE without being redirected.

What should I do to get you the information you need to diagnose?

I really appreciate your assistance.

Joe

If it helps, it appears that I am most often re-directed to AntiVirus Soft to purchase their bogus software to cure the problem.

Hi Joe,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Download GMER (http://www.gmer.net) here by clicking download exe -button and then saving it your desktop:
Double-click .exe that you downloaded
Click rootkit-tab and then scan.
Don't check
Show All
box while scanning in progress!
When scanning is ready, click Copy.
This copies log to clipboard
Post log (if the log is long, archive it into a zip file and attach instead of posting) in your reply.

I appreciate your attention, but was able to resolve this problem by finding some instructions via another laptop.

Thanks,

Joe
