Okay first I would like to appoligice for posting in another users thread (didn't read the rules stupid me).

Okay my littlebrother succeded in getting malware into his computer and I removed it like I ussualy do. Using spybots removal tool and imunization then I've used spy sweeper to remove the rest (zlob as one of those malwares) and I've used AVG to remove any viruses on his computer. The computer was off the internet during whole this time and now it should have been clean... but whenever he opens internet explorer it goes to a malware homepage (which is why it is permantly off the internet) if I tryed to change the start page it changed it back right away. So I started windows in safe mode and removed all start page and search page from the registry. Then I tryed to do as in another post (link in bottom):

installing Winhelp2002's deldomain.inf
Then Downloading and installing mvpshosts.

But now his internet explorer starts up on blank page (as I want it to) but is redirected right away and then blocked and then redirected in a constant loop... I don't know what to do any help to removing will be greatly appreciated.
And yes I've used newest version of everything ;)

Okay before I'm going on vacation I have a little spare time ;) so I did a virus scan with panda restartet computer in safe mode and did a scan with spybot. Restartet computer again and made a log with hijackthis.

When I did the online scan a virus warning pupped up from avg and I cleaned the virus infection, also when I did the safe mode scan with spybot I found zlob downloader again and I removed it. I didn't remove any of the files panda found. Here is log from panda:

Hello and welcome to the forum. I want you to enjoy your vacation:bigthumb: but you also need to know you have a Smitfraud infection. These are the instructions:

http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015

Once you finish with the instructions, post those three logs in this same topic and I will respond as soon as possible after that. If you are going to wait until you return from vacation, pull the plug and tell all in the house to leave the computer unplugged until you return and complete the cleaning.

Thanks...pskelley

You need to slow down and follow directions:

Copy/paste into your own new topic.
c:\rapport.txt
Ewido log <<< where are the results of the ewido scan???
The HJT log

Thanks

ewido will often report something that HJT can't see if it is there. If you ran it again just to post for me, look in the folder:
C:\Programmer\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\ <<< in red to see if there is a folder call "reports". Open that to see if a scan report is in there. Otherwise we will assume ewido located nothing to be concerned about. Your HJT log is also clean, so you are good to go.

If you do not own SpySweeper, you may want to consider uninstalling it, doing you little good and using resources running once any trial period is over.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html
http://cybercoyote.org/security/not-admin.shtml

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

Safe surfing...tashi:) will close you within a few days.

Well the only problem still sticking around is the sysnetsecurity problem... if there is a fix I'd love to know ;). Anyway my computer is getting anxious about getting his computer back so if I can't get it fixed before tommorow I'll have to reinstal winblows :( shrugs

Two topics merged.

I have been working with you in this post:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?p=32103#post32103

The original post appears to have been archived, it is generally accepted when a person asks for help, they stick with the topic until they are done.
I have asked tashi to combine the two topics if possible.

Because this all started here: 2006-07-05, 15:58 and it is over a week later, this is what I would like you to do.

SmitfraudFix is updated almost daily and you have an old version. There is no doubt you have the infection. I want you to delete anything from SmitfraudFix you have on your computer and then download it fresh from here:
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php

Once you have it download, there is no need for you to use the search function, we know the infection is there.

Start with CLEAN and follow the balance of the directions to the end. Then post the C:\rapport.txt and we will see if you got it all.

Thanks...Phil

couldn't find out how to edit but it didn't solve the problem. I'm still being redirected to sysnetsecurity once and in a while (offline mode ofcourse).

I fear that I might have some virus lying around still because I remember when I did the panda scan I couldn't remove only check what was lying around... dunno if that helps.

anyway again thanks for the help ;)

Something is going wrong with the fix, you can see the items being located above in the earlier run and it should show those items being deleted in the second part of the fix. Try running it again and give me any information about anything that occurs during the fix.

You might also run the first part of the fix to see what it shows:
Search:
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Look at that tutorial, make sure all of the parts are there when you open it. If your antivirus programs blocks anything during the download, expecially Process.exe, the fix will not work. This fix is being used by many, many folks all over the world, if it is not working for you there is a reason, put on your thinking cap. Post a HJT this log the next time with the reports from the fix.

Thanks.

Okay I startet the comp in normal mode ended all anti virus and anti spyware processes (running in the lower right corner) and extractet the smitfraudfix to desktop. Then I did a scan where it said it didn't find the temp folder as the only unussual thing (it does this every time) after that I did a hijackthis scan (logs will be saved at end of post). Then I start my comp in safe mode and run the cleaning option of smitfraud, it asks me for a registry cleaning while it starts a diskcleaning, after I say yes for that it just ends no more question or anything, and when it ends and I get to the main menu of smitfraud windows pops up and ask if I wanna stay in safe mode. After that I did another hijackthis scan (in safe mode). I hope this is what you asked for I'm not sure if this was what you meant. Here are the logs:

oh just one extra thing. If it will help you to remove ANY thing then plz say so fx if you want avg removed and such because my little brother is getting to the point where he is considering reinstalling but I'd rather like to best the malware by fixing it.

I am showing a clean HJT log. Please scan with whatever programs (Panda?) that are showing anything and post the logs for me. Post any other information you think will help.

Try a Kaspersky scan:

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.

Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.

Now click on Scan Settings

In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

Scan Options:

Scan Archives

Scan Mail Bases

Click OK

Now under select a target to scan select My Computer

The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.

Now click on the Save as Text button:

Save the file to your desktop.

Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Thanks

First a funny thing I've noticed is that everytime I go to google (offline mode) his inetexplorer isn't being redirected but if I go to www.dr.dk I'll be redirected EACH time...

Okay as I went online I logged online to msn where a script bug appeared, I said I didn't want to have scripts running from it. Then I installed firefox to see what happent. it didn't seem like it was infected so that might mean he can use that explorer instead... dunno. Then I went to the kaspersky webpage (with internet explorer, since I wasn't sure if he had to be using inetexplorer as you have to with panda) and did a full system scan.
I choosed extended scan method and scanned "my computer", also I updated the newest patches for xp that he didn't have (simultanously). I didn't have avg activated as I did the scan but ewido was activated (this might cause a problem as I noticed the first time I did a panda scan I got a popup with a virus which I then removed with avg but this time I didn't have it running so if something poppuped up that avg actually could remove, it didn't.

Well here is the report:

Scan process completed.

Also my littlebrother was smart enough to press restart while the scan was running but it continued till the scan ended. When it ended and the report was ended I wanted to see if I could use kaspersky to delete the infections so I clicked on the "all" button above the detail screen, then the computer suddenly just rebooted.
After the computer startet up it came with an windows error report, the files that caused the error was:

C:\DOCUME~1\THEISG~1\LOKALE~1\Temp\WERcf38.dir00\Mini071506-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\THEISG~1\LOKALE~1\Temp\WERcf38.dir00\sysdata.xml

Also the error that accured in msn accured again and this is what it said:
This is translatet from danish:

An error accured in the script on the page
Line: 42
Symbol: 3
Error: An object was waitet
code: 0
URL: http://rad.msn.com/adsadclient31.dll?getad?og=imsdmd?sc=hf

Gotta go will do a panda scan later

Beginning to think you brother is right, Kaspersky really shows nothing that helps. Those two TEMP lines can be deleted, in fact you can delete the contents of those TEMP folders (not the folder)

I will look at the Panda scan when you post it to see if I spot anything, but I am out of ideas on this one.

I would address the question about this to MSN:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823390

An error accured in the script on the page
Line: 42
Symbol: 3
Error: An object was waitet
code: 0
URL: http://rad.msn.com/adsadclient31.dll...g=imsdmd?sc=hf

Thanks

Panda scan gave following:

Incident Status Location

Potentially unwanted tool:Application/Processor Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Theis Gaarsmand\Skrivebord\SmitfraudFix\Process.exe
Potentially unwanted tool:Application/Processor Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Theis Gaarsmand\Skrivebord\SmitfraudFix.zip[SmitfraudFix/Process.exe]
Virus:W32/Bagle.pwdzip Disinfected C:\download\SmitfraudFix.zip

Which bassically means nothing... I'm gonna reinstal if you don't have any more idears so just waiting for your reply ;)

Nope, that's all Smitfraud stuff, you can remove all things Smitfraud from your computer, it is updated almost daily. Here is the link to where the most current updates for that tool will be if you ever need it.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php

Tashi:) will close you in a few days.

Thanks...Phil
