Hi nitenrse44

Download gmer.zip (http://gmer.net/gmer.zip) and save to your desktop.
alternate download site (http://hype.free.googlepages.com/gmer.zip)

Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial105.html) for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial106.html).
When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
Click on the Rootkit tab.
Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.
Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.
When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in SAFE MODE (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html)"
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan..

Download to the desktop: Dr.Web CureIt (ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe)

Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Please go to Kaspersky website (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html) and perform an online antivirus scan.

Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button: Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives
Click on My Computer under Scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Most of them will get removed.

Empty this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\DoctorWeb\Quarantine\

Delete this:

C:\My Games\JQ_Solitaire_CC-setup.exe

Empty Recycle Bin.

Still problems?

2010-03-30, 21:50
followed instructions as given and IE is still NOT going to site as listed in original statement.....no longer redirecting to rc12.overture.com, but IE displays error message... "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage", when attempting to go to www.vistaprint.com...

Shaba
2010-04-02, 15:11
Then I suggest that you uninstall IE 8 and reinstall it and let me know if it helped.

nitenrse44
2010-04-02, 21:04
Uninstalled IE 8.0 and reinstalled with no change to IE unable to to display site.... Now what????? I am sure we are both frustrated at this point....

Shaba
2010-04-03, 14:04
Well in that case we will have to find out if it is only IE related or not.

Please install chrome/firefox/opera and let me know if same happens also with them.

nitenrse44
2010-04-03, 20:48
Downloaded each browser: Chrome, Firefox; Opera and tested each for address www.vistaprint.com as well as other sites for Vistaprint that were found on a search....
Each browser responded the same as IE to the command and was NOT able to go to web-site... all browsers are able to go to other vistaprint sites with additional directions.... such as: http://smallbiz.vistaprint.com, or http://ir.vistaprint.com, http://careers.vistaprint.com

NONE are able to go to vistaprint.com

Should I uninstall these other browsers at this time.....

Shaba
2010-04-04, 12:53
Yes, please uninstall then them.

Next test is to try webproxy.

Please visit myproxy.ca and let me know if you are able to visit vistaprints.com using that webproxy.

nitenrse44
2010-04-05, 02:34
Uninstalled Chrome, Opera and Firefox.
Went to site: myproxy.ca you requested and was successful visiting vistaprint.com

Hope this leads us to an eventual success in unblocking the site...

Do you connect to internet via a router?

nitenrse44
2010-04-06, 06:48
I do connect via a router..... I have another PC and a laptop that also share the connection..... BTW, I am able to connect to vistaprint.com via the other PC as well as the laptop....

Shaba
2010-04-06, 18:03
I see.

Can you tell me brand and model of that router?

nitenrse44
2010-04-06, 19:28
Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router, 2.4GHz, model: WRT54GS

Shaba
2010-04-07, 06:26
Do you have manual available for that router?

I ask because it needs to be resetted.

nitenrse44
2010-04-07, 16:27
yes I do have user manual on Linksys CD

Shaba
2010-04-07, 21:21
Then please read it how to reset router, do that and post back if it helped :)

Change router password as well, please.

nitenrse44
2010-04-08, 03:13
I read the manual info about resetting the router and I am very hesitant to do this myself...my son is a software engineer and spent a very lot of time getting my router set up and getting my home network up and working... For some BAD cosmic computer karma....I have problems with tasks that do not happen in other homes..and my son spends a lot of time working out solutions.. I talked to my son about the router reset request, and he is also very leary about doing a reset... He instructed me to the router config page online, and we looked at the ACCESS RESTRICTIONS page and there were NO restrictions setup and none are listed...

Our question is: if the router is blocking my access to the stated web-site on my computer, how is it allowing access thru the 2nd PC and the laptop?

Is there another corrective means we can try?

In the meantime, I think I will take the router out of the loop, and see if the computer can access the web-site with only my computer connected to the modem....

nitenrse44
2010-04-08, 19:07
took router out of the loop, restarted computer and attempted to go to website vistaprint.com with the same result....IE unable to connect....

Shaba
2010-04-08, 21:12
OK so it is not router.

Go start - run, type notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Copy/paste contents of opening file here, please.

The following errors occurred with your submission:

is there a way to zip the file or send it in multiple divided files?

nitenrse44
2010-04-08, 22:31
Trying to send you file as an attachment...

Maybe this will answer my above question....

hope this works since file was too large...4770

Shaba
2010-04-09, 06:25
Yes that website is included to hosts and that's why you are not able to access it.

We can remove it from hosts if you like to and you should be able to access website again.

nitenrse44
2010-04-09, 17:21
I do not understand your reply.....

I was able to run the notepad file as you requested, but was NOT able to post the copied file in the reply window because the file was too large to display.... thus I saved the file and created a PDF file and attached it to the reply I sent.... I will send the file again with this post as an attachment...4777

Shaba
2010-04-10, 08:07
Yes but first attachment was fine.

Go again start - run, type notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Do a search for vistaprint and remove all matching entries, save the file as all files (*.*).

Let me know if you are now able to access that site.

nitenrse44
2010-04-10, 19:19
Did a search for vistaprint as directed and NO results were found

Shaba
2010-04-11, 16:34
Well there are results as there were two hits in pdf you sent me :)

Anyway, it is easier way to reset hosts.

Download HostsXpert (http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip) and unzip it to your desktop.

Open HostsXpert that you earlier unzipped on your desktop

Click "Make Hosts Writable?" upper right corner (if available)
Click "Restore Microsoft's Original Hosts File" and then click OK
Close HostsXpert
Note; IF you used any custom Hosts (eg. MVPS Hosts), you will have put them back manually

Let me know if any change afterwards.

nitenrse44
2010-04-11, 18:34
I don't know how our when, but I can NOW access the website vistaprint.com... when I answered your last instructions, I ran....
notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts as a new run instead of the saved file I sent you....that explains why I did not find the vistaprint entries... today, I looked at the saved file and indeed found the entries on pg 236 of 241...

I did run my utilities after I sent you my reply on the new run file... I use free version of Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Glary Utilities.... these programs did find an additional infected file, as well as correcting many registry file entries...

Not sure how the vistaprint entries no longer appear in the run report...
Since the site is no longer blocked...do we need to proceed with any other scans or file runs... I have NOT run the newest file you requested....

If we are now good to go, which programs you had me install and run do I uninstall and are any of these programs should I keep and use on my own?

Shaba
2010-04-12, 20:30
Glad to hear :)

Well do you have any other issues left?

nitenrse44
2010-04-13, 00:03
I have no further issues....just need info on which programs to uninstall and which, if any of the programs I should keep for further use on my own....

I am extremely grateful to you for your assistance and patience as we worked on resolving my issues....

I have started the process you have outlined for me to do, but, I have not proceeded past the OTCCleanIt without asking for clarification....

OTC did clean up some of the tools we ran or installed... but, I still have 3 programs on my desktop that were NOT removed or uninstalled at this time... These programs/exe files are: drweb-cureit.exe, HijackThis -installed program, ERUNT -installed program..../Am I to just uninstall these items and then proceed as you outlined....or are any of these programs ones I need to keep and use again???
