View Full Version : Virus Alert! icon- help me please
G'day guys
I just recently got this icon that says Virus Alert! whenever i pan over it and
every so often spews out some bull that i have a critical error , virus , blah blah blah and i must buy some of their software!
I got a few friendly little trojans with it which my Spyware Doctor got rid of(I hope!) but the icon still remains! It is REALLY annoying about now so i hope someone could help me get rid of it.

G'Day and welcome to the forum. You are running three antivirus programs at the same time and this is very bad policy. Here is what Symantec says:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206 and Microsoft:
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."

When i try to uninstall McAfee virusscan and security center it
comes up with an error which is :'An error occured while uninstalling
the McAfee HTML dialog component'

As far as I can see you have done nothing to remove the excess antivirus programs. I need to see a log running one program before I can proceed.
I have no idea which of these programs you intend to keep,

I have succesfully deleted avira but i cannot uninstall mcafee or avast!
When i try to uninstall avast it just doesnt pop up with the uninstilation.
When i try to delete the folder it says acces denied / in use/ write protected.
When i try to uninstall McAfee it says :An error occured while uninstalling
the McAfee HTML dialog component.
And i have tried to delete it from its folder aswell but same thing about
acces denied and all of that.
How can i uninstall them ?
Also i have been getting quite a few popus which i never usually get.

That is why I gave you the link so you can contact the company for help. I do not run those and have no idea what the uninstall instructions are. Which antivirus program do you want to keep? How did you get in this mess anyway?

OK, post a new, fresh HJT log. Make sure it is in Normal Mode and that everything is turned on in MSConfig. Make sure you are done with the log and at that point make only changes I post. We will remove the balance of Avast and McAfee manually with HJT along with the junk that is causing your problems.
If you need another firewall once McAfee is removed, I will provide a free one, in the meantime make sure you have everything turned on in the Security Center of your Control Panel. That includes the SP2 firewall. If we install another firewall (third party) make sure you turn the SP2 firewall off, Microsoft also suggests you run only one firewall at a time.

1) Your Java program is very out of date and may be the reason you are infected, see this information:

Once those two logs are posted, update ewido and run a complete system scan. Post the scan report as soon as you have it.

G'Day and thanks for returning the information and for checking to make sure no Smitfraud was present. Your HJT log is clean, this item: C:\WINDOWS\system32\zlara.dll was a trojan and when googled identified with Smitfraud, hense the reason I ran the check. I am interested in the ewido scan report but I firmly believe most of your issues were caused by all of the AV programs competing with each other and sending false signals to you. Keep that one up to date and run in often and you will be in good shape. As soon as I look over ewido for hidden issues, if nothing shows I will get you one the road.

My current firewall : Outpost is proving to be quite annoying
Sometimes when i click on a folder all the icons dissapear and
it doesn't open the folder saying that .explorer has been modified
by winologin or something so i am wondering if you can supply
me a good simple free firewall ?

Would have been wise to make me aware of the fact there are multiple users on the computer. The infection can be in any of the users. Please post a HJT log for each user and mark them plainly so we both will know which HJT log belongs to who.
I have links for a couple of free firewall, but I would prefer not to being new software into the mix until I know the computer is clean. Please make sure I give you those before tashi closes your topic.

Sorry for not making it clear that there were more than one
users. I never really thought of that. Also it appears that
I cannot use IE or go into any folders sometimes. It was
happening when two people were logged on at the same
time on the computer but now it has happened to me right
now and i have just restarted the computer. I will post HJT
logs for each active user now.

This is VERY weird. I cannot open any folder and if i do the icons dissapear and all of the icons in the system tray dissapear and then the icons come back on the screen and only the icons that i was using come back. Whenever i click IE the cursor comes up with the thinking thing and the comp whirs but nothing comes up. This happens randomly and sometimes when i restart the computer it goes back to normal. Firefox works though but i cannot seam to access any of the directories or folders or IE.

ewido anti-spyware - Scan Report No action taken????:confused: You have done nothing with the junk ewido located, run the scan again and this time DELETE what it finds, then post a new scan report.

Hey , I did delete what ewido found BUT that report was made
before any action was taken. Ok i will move hijack this into its
own folder on desktop. I will also get a scan from my sisters
account. But on my sisters account IE doent work and i can't
use the folders!

Seems like you have many more issues than malware? Have you considered reinstalling Windows on this computer?
