winvercp.exe popping up in Online Armor Firewall

CPU usage and fan are also running higher/hotter than normal.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Please turn word wrap off in Notepad. It makes logs more readable.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Hi CP,

Show hidden files
-----------------
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Upload C:\WINDOWS\system32\winvercp.exe file to http://www.virustotal.com and post back the results.

Please see in task manager (ctrl+alt+del) what processes use most CPU (system idle process excluded).

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All

Kaspersky online scan may take several hours if there're lots of items to be scanned and/or if the drive is badly fragmented.

Delete E:\Downloads\Solid Works\Solidwork 2007 SP0.0 Multilang DVD Edition.nrg file if it's not legit item.

You should check your Outlook email messages and delete suspicious ones (if any).

Yes I did. It seems to run, the progress bar goes to completion, the hourglass pops up, and i don't get any antivirus or firewall-related errors. However, no log pops up or is saved in the default combofix folders.

Let's pass ComboFix for now.

Disable protection software and start hjt. Click do a system scan only, checkmark:

Close browsers and press 'fix checked'.

Open notepad and then copy and paste the bolded lines below into it. Go to File > save as and name the file fixes.bat, change the Save as type to all files and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on fixes.bat file to execute it.

Reboot and post a fresh hjt log.

Hey Blade,

I would have to say yes...

Unfortunately, I can no longer start my laptop due to a BSOD.

Boot - OK
Windsors startup screen and progress bar - hangs and goes to BSOD

Tried to startup in 'last known good configuration' and 'safe mode' but neither worked.

Any suggestions?
