View Full Version : Browser has gone nuts!

For the past few days my browser has been redirecting my searches. Example, I click to search for a certain brand of heaters and I get taken to Yahoo UK! When trying to find a forum for solutions or trying to go to a site for malware removal tools, I get a message saying that the site cannot be found on this server or I get a message saying there are connection problems.

I'm also having trouble with my Gmail account not closing properly. When I sign out it tells me it was unable to sign me out because I'm still signed in elsewhere! I mainly use IE8 but have found that Firefox won't load google at all. I've run Malaware, AdAware, AVGfree, Spybot and Windows Defender and while each have found and fixed a couple of things, the problem persists. Plus I can't update Spybot because I keep getting the 'error retrieving update file' message. Windows Defender gives me a similar message when I try to update that as well  Please help, this is doing my head in!!

I also keep getting a pop-up, supposedly from Windows Internet Security, telling me this.....

Your browser is under the threat of infection. Windows requires your permission to install online protection tool.
Your browser is run in unsafe mode. Running the protection mode will help keep your computer safe. Staying at the susupicious website in unsafe mode may lead to loss of personal data and computer breakage. To run the web browser in protected mode Windows requires installing the certified antivirus scanner software and online protection tool.

Name: Online Protection Tool
Publisher: Microsoft Windows.

It gives me to the option to 'Allow' or 'Don't Allow' and each time it has appeared I have clicked the don't allow option. My browser definitely has Protected Mode:On and the website I was on this time was this one

The only other thing I have noticed is that the Smart Screen Filter has been telling me that the 'online service is temporarily unavailable'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi kiss29.
Do you still need help?
Please post a new HijackThis log and an uninstall list.

Please post an Uninstall list.

Open HijackThis.
Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
Look under System tools.
Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
Click on the Save list... button.
It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.
