av soft rogue antivirus software on XP

hey guys,
I'm new to this site :D
I just recently got infected by a rogue antivirus program called AV SOFT.

When i start up the task manager is disabled by the program and a lot of pop-ups appear telling me I'm infected and blah blah.

I have read a few forum posts on rogue antiviruses and removing them but I thought it was best that I post my own problem as I do not want to follow some advice and it do more harm to my computer.

Where do I start with removing this thing?

Then start a new topic.

If HJT won't run please start a new topic anyway, make note of the situation and a volunteer analyst will advise you when available.
