Additional information I thought [I]may be helpful / relevant
This virus seems to have surfaced while I was browsing safe web pages that I have open on a daily basis, so I would assume that it didn't come from the web. Approximately 2 months ago, I was infected with the malware that poses as XP security suite and attempts to persuade you to buy the software in order to remove your infections. Additionally I was having a problem with Microsoft Script Debugger popping up and prompting me to choose a debugging software. I was able to get rid of this problem with the direction of a forum much like this one, which prompted me to run Combofix.
Just two days ago, this same debugger began popping up, so I ran my anti-virus software and I was indeed infected with trojans. I attempted to remove the files, but found them to still be present on my computer after a second scan. Vundo is the one that sticks out to me because it keeps coming up, but I fear that may not be the only one.

I know this will push back my ticket, which is fine...I just thought it was worth noting spyware search and destroy said there was a virtumondo trojan infection. When Spybot prompts me to allow/deny changes to the registry, do I click allow or deny? i didn't quite understand which does what. Sorry I'm kinda new with this stuff :sad:

I have bad news I'm afraid. :sad:
One or more of the identified infections is a Backdoor Trojan.
OK since we are dealing with the aforementioned infection(s) I would be providing your good self with a disservice if I did not make you aware of the ramifications below:
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files.
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Although an attempt could be made to clean this machine, it could never be considered to be truly clean, secure, or trustworthy. We could not say definitively that unknown and unseen malware will have been removed, nor will your system be restored to its pre-infection state. We cannot remedy unknown changes the malware may likely have made in order to allow itself access, nor can we repair the damage it may possibly have caused to vital system files. Additionally, it is quite possible that changes made to the system by the malware may impact negatively on your computer during the removal process. In short, your system may never regain its former stability or its full functionality without a reformat. Therefore, your best and safest course of action is a reformat and reinstallation of the Windows operating system, and that is the course we strongly recommend.

Hi, I would reformat my computer but I don't have any Windows installation disks nor did I have any when I purchased my computer. Do you know off-hand if it is possible to get access to them, having purchased a computer with Windows installed?
Can you identify to me which process(s)/service(s) ect. are backdoor trojans?
Remotely control my computer? Wouldn't I be able to see this happening if it were?
My computer has been acting normal the past 2 days now after virus scans and malwarebytes removal, any ideas about why its returned back to normal state?

I just wanted to make you aware of something that may or may not be of interest: A few months ago I spoke with microsoft representatives who were assisting me in cleaning my computer up in the midst of the malware attack. I installed Microsoft Easy Assist which allowed the representative to remotely control my computer. The software is still present on my computer.

Hi, I would reformat my computer but I don't have any Windows installation disks nor did I have any when I purchased my computer. Do you know off-hand if it is possible to get access to them, having purchased a computer with Windows installed?
It appears your computer may have what is known as the PC Recovery Solution (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=18703&docname=c00608578) hence the lack of installation disks. If used this resets your computer back to the state it was when purchased. So defacto a pseudo reformat and reinstallation of the Windows operating system.
Can you identify to me which process(s)/service(s) ect. are backdoor trojans?
This (http://www.threatexpert.com/files/sdra64.exe.html) is one of the infections identified. Plus further confirmation here (http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X930247081595103602-X1/SDRA64.EXE.html) and here (http://www.greatis.com/appdata/d/s/sdra64.exe.htm). Basically this particular malware has hooked itself into the Winlogon userinit registry value and will startup with every system reboot. It also has the capabilities to download and install several other malicious files to a infected system.
Remotely control my computer? Wouldn't I be able to see this happening if it were?Not necessarily so and it appears you may actually have a software conflict arising from too many active in system memory security related applications. This will hinder both detection/removal and overall protection actually.
My computer has been acting normal the past 2 days now after virus scans and malwarebytes removal, any ideas about why its returned back to normal state? ...unless of course you think you may be able to remove it without having to do a windows reinstallation. I have given you my honest opinion on what I deem the most prudent course of action. If however you wish myself to attempt a malware removal please bare in mind I can't guarantee that your machine will be at all secure afterwords.

Create/Transfer Backups:
Anything you wish to move to the external Hard-Drive, we can employ a specific methodology as follows to lesson the chance of anything infection wise being crossed over.
Create a folder on the root of your computer's Hard-Drive, for example call it MyBackup, transfer all the documents, files and pictures etc you wish to keep to this new folder.
Check for any updates with your presently installed Anti-Virus application McAfee and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, install them etc.
Now right click on the backup folder created and select scan with McAfee , then when completed the same with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Flash_Disinfector:
Please download Flash_Disinfector (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Flash_Disinfector.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click to run it.
You will be prompted to plug in your flash drive. <-- In this scenario it will be your External Hard-Drive.
Flash_Disinfector will start disinfecting your flash and hard drives. This takes a few seconds. Your desktop will disappear in the meantime.
When done, a message box will appear. Click OK. Your desktop should now appear. If it doesn't, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Click on File > New Task (Run...). Type in explorer.exe and press Enter. Your desktop should now appear.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.
Next:
Transfer your backup folder to the External Hard-Drive. Then safely (http://www.5starsupport.com/tutorial/usb-drive.htm) disconnect it from your computer.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Install the Active X
Once installed it will advise set Auto-Updates if not set and you then you will be able to manually check for updates also via:
Start >> All Programs >> Microsoft Updates
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

hey, at our last communications, we decided my best option would be to reformat my PC. I did this and all seemed to be going well until about 12-24 hours later. My thread is archived so I can no longer to respond. Sorry I waited a few days but I was attempting to fix the problem myself until I gave up and reformatted/reinstalled windows again.
After reformatting I installed the following at your recommendation:
Windows Updates
Avast AntiVirus
Malwarebytes
Outpost Firewall
WinPatrol
Spyware Blaster
I installed the following programs at my own discression:
CCleaner
Java Updates
Continuum (www.trenchwars.org - this is an online game I've been playing for 7+ years, undoubtedly a safe site)
Mozilla Firefox
I also transferred files over from my external hard drive. I also followed the steps before transfering these files over, which were to,

Now to the problem: My computer starts to act funny a few minutes after start up. Nothing can install (for example Microsoft Word), Internet explorer freezes up (and won't even open up if I don't launch the program within a minute or two from start-up), Mozilla won't start either. Mozilla or IE for example appear in my task manager but only consume 80 k per instance. The programs I have open freeze up for the most part. Oddly enough, the only program that doesn't freeze up is continuum, the online game I play. Eventually it gets to the point where I can't click anything on my desktop but I can control the start menu using the windows key, tab key, arrows, ect.
Any ideas what's going on? I'll refrain from installing anything until I hear back from you.

Most strange and the cause may be due to a number of possibilities but I am quite willing to check this out for you as follows:-
Question:
Did you perform the reformat as per the instructions for using the in-built HP Recovery Partition as described in the web-page I provided the URL for?
Scan with RSIT:
Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Make sure that RSIT.exe is on the your Desktop before running the application!
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open:
log.txt will be opened maximized.
info.txt will be opened minimized.
Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt.
Note: Both logs can also be located within this folder rsit at the root of your installed Hard-Drive. EG: C:\rsit
When completed the above, please post back the following in the order asked for:
How is your computer performing now, any further symptoms and or problems encountered?

My computer is behaving fine right now. No problems, no symptoms.
To your question: Yes I performed the reformat according to the instructions provided. They weren't exactly true to the actual process but I knew enough about what I was doing to do it right. I was either provided the option to system restore to an earlier date or to perform a reformat and reinstallation of windows, of which I chose the latter. I also did the same process for my second reformat and my computer seems to be behaving fine right now.
If I had to take a guess on why my computer was behaving so poorly the other day, I'd say it was some of the new anti-virus/malware ect software conflicting with Norton. The other side of that is that Norton was never enabled.

From what you described it does sound like a system conflict occurred. Is the presently installed and active Norton Internet Security still have a active subscription or on a trial basis?
Also the actual version in use is somewhat out of date. There are a few other applications that should be updated also including the service pack but we can address that in due course.
yeah it's installed, not activated...I could try and remove it in control panel > add/remove programs. Should I do that, then other anti-virus software? And, should I install the same software I did before (that I described to you earlier)?

FIXED Fair enough but please do not make any other changes to your machine at this time. This is merely myself playing safe since you have been online without any active Anti-Virus. Do not be alarmed by this OK but merely view it as myself ensuring your online safety.
Norton/Symantec RT:
Please download the Norton Removal Tool (ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe) and Save it to your Desktop.
Close all programs and double-click the Norton_Removal_Tool.exe then click Run
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Restart the computer if asked.
Then delete Norton_Removal_Tool.exe from your desktop.
Download/Install a AV:
Download just one only of the three free anti-virus programs listed below please:-
AntiVir Free. (http://www.free-av.com/)
Avast Home Edition. (http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=mncol)
Microsoft Security Essentials (http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/).
Now whichever you chose Install>> Update >> Carry Out a Complete Scan. Have it fix anything it finds.
Next:
Please make sure that RSIT.exe is still on the Desktop.(if not inform myself straight away please)
Click on Start >> Run...(or the Windows key and R together) to bring up the Run box and and copy and paste in:
"%userprofile%\desktop\rsit.exe" /infoand click on OK
Click on Run and RSIT will start.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open:
log.txt will be opened maximized.
info.txt will be opened minimized.
Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt.
When completed the above, please post back the following in the order asked for:

Hey, my computer seems to be working fine right now (although its only been a few hours since my last post and a few minutes since the avast installation). Hi. :)
Out of date Adobe and Java installations pose a security risk. They can be used by malware as a means to infect a computer and or re-infect. We will update both in due course.
Now please go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):
Adobe Reader 7.0.5
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5
To do so, click once on each of the above in turn to highlight and then click on the Remove button.
Note: Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.
New Adobe Reader Installation:
Go here (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/enu/) and click on AdbeRdr930_en_US.exe to download the latest version of Adobe Reader.
Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
New Java Installation:
Click here (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) to visit Java's website.
Scroll down to JDK 6 Update 19 (JDK or JRE). Click on Download JRE.
Select Windows from the drop-down list for Platform.
Check (tick) Java SE Runtime Environment 6u19 with JavaFX 1 License Agreement box and click on Continue.
Click on jre-6u19-windows-i586.exe link to download it and save this to a convenient location.
Double click on jre-6u19-windows-i586.exe to install Java. Uncheck Carbonite online backup trial if it's offered there.

Delete RSIT.exe and this folder:-
C:\rsit
Then empty the Recycle Bin.
Reset the System Restore points:
Create a new, clean System Restore point which you can use in case of future system problems:
Press Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >>System Tools >> System Restore
Select Create a restore point, then Next, type a name like All Clean then press the Create button and once it's done press Close
Now remove old, infected System Restore points:
Next click Start >> Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Recycle Bin, Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Select the More Options tab, under System Restore press Clean up... and say Yes to the prompt
Press OK and Yes to confirm
Advised Update:
Support for Service Pack 2 will cease will end on July 13, 2010 (http://blogs.technet.com/lifecycle/archive/2010/02/25/end-of-support-for-windows-xp-sp2-and-windows-vista-with-no-service-packs-installed.aspx)
I highly advise you download/install Service Pack 3(SP3) as this as it will increase both the security side of your system and overall stability.

Aye the application is fine to use but do not use the Scan for Issues feature as it has a penchant of removing legitimate items. Plus the backups it does create are very rarely successfully merged back with the registry.
CCleaner is basically a advanced temp file cleaning application were as WinPatrol is a heuristic based security monitoring application. It is benign in nature and merely informs you if any important system settings have been altered and provides the option to decline such.
