After running spybot, cant execute programs

On Windows XP, after running spybot, and removing a bunch of spyware, I rebooted, and could not execute programs such as Word, Excel, etc...

On trying to execute these programs, I get the message,

" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action."

and it dumps me to a screen asking me what program to run. This doesnt work either.

It does not seem to make a difference if I use the shortcut, or go directly to the executable.

Is there a way to fix this, or do I have to format and reinstall ?

If the programs that will not execute are .exe files,then you can use the Exe File association fix from Doug Knox:

The instructions are at the top,be sure to unzip the file. :)
