"Security Tool" Infection; HJT Will Not Run

Hello,
One of our computers has a pop up that comes up whenever it starts that is labeled "Security Tool" and it reports that there are infections on the computer. It remains on top of all other windows, so using other programs is problamatic/impossible because I cannot see or respond to any dialogs. I cannot run HJT.

I should mention that it is my wifes laptop and I do not know what she downloaded or if she ran the bogus Security Tool scan. The laptop is running Vista and One Care, and it is fully up to date.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Please download Malwarebytes from Here or Here

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.

Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • DDS.com
  • DDS.scr
  • DDS.pif
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
