Working while Spybot is scanning

Can Spybot properly perform a scan while you are running other programs, surfing, etc.? I assume that this will slow the scan and slow performance generally, but does it prevent any detections?

You can still work on your pc while scanning with Spybot.
Probably the scan is a little bit slower, but not significant.
