Hi,

I have run SD several times now and both of these trojans still show up after several lengthy scans and immunization (under safe and non safe config and under admin and some user account).

Here is what I noticed also. Not only S&D will not remove them but over time, it looks as if the trojan seems to be picking up the names of valid processes like qttask.exe or skypePM.exe to make the laptop real sloooow. After a while, most processes running have been duplicated so that a view on the task manager shows twice the same smss.exe, explorer.exe,.....

This is getting really weird.

Thanks for responding. I did just what you asked under the admin logon and in safe mode.

Do I need to do anything else ?
Should I perform the same procedure under the other username ?

Also I cannot seem to boot in normal mode only safe mode and safe mode with networking. The boot in normal mode seems to be looping and after a somewhat normal boot process (I get the welcome from windows, I get a blue screen with many errors for about a second and then the machine starts the booting again).

Hi,

thanks for the info. BSOD's and other problems dont always have a malware cause. you do have malware though. For now see if you can install and run malwarebytes Link and directions;

Please download Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php) to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

Be sure that everything is checked, and click *Remove Selected.*

*A restart of your computer may be required to remove some items. If prompted please restart your computer to complete the fix.*

When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
Post the log in your reply.

I did this scan several times under both the admin status and the user status and it seems to have taken care of many trojans/rootkit/malware and now I have this clean bill of health (see below). However, I still cannot log normally (only safe mode is possible) as I loop around a BSOD asking me to get in safe mode. So the laptop work in safe mode but there is no way to start it up in a normal mode!

Is there something else on this machine ?

Let me check something on my XP partition, iam in linux now and I well post back. For now we will get another download to use as a check for malware. Its called combofix. There is a short guide to read through first. Read and follow the guide to download, install and run combofix. Post the combofix log in your reply.
I guess you cant make out what the BSOD screen says because it dosnt last long enough?

Ok weird things are happening.

First I was able to read the BSOD message, the error is:
STOP: 0x0000007E,0x88FE1248,0xBAD9FC9C,0xBAD9F998

after copying comboxfix on the machine under safe mode. It connects to microsoft to get the recovery console. So this is good.

Then it goes into the searching for bugs mode and I get a warning that a Rootkit has been detected and that the computer will restart which it does and then goes on the usual mode of booting, then gettingBOSD and then rebooting and so on.

When I go back under safe mode and re-run combofix then I get a new message when I start it:

These files tried to link/connect to Comboxfix. they will be deactivated....

and then go through the same warning for the rootkit and then we go back to the loop described above.

I went back into safe mode to find out that there is a comboxfix folder but there is absolutely no C:/combofix.txt file anywhere.

The mystery thickens.

Malware can cause all kinds of problems. I would use the computer as little as possible until its cleaned up. I would keep it powered of or the ethernet cable unplugged so there is no connectivity. If you have another machine use it.
Lets try to get another download. Grab the file in safe mode and try running it. Link and directions:

Please download TDSS Killer.zip (http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip) and save it to your desktop
Extract the zip file to your desktop
Click start > run and copy/paste whats below into the run box. Click ok or enter



"%userprofile%\desktop\tdsskiller.exe" -l report.txt.

When its finished press any key to continue.
If prompted please reboot your computer
Please post the report.txt that will be generated on your desktop after running the utility.

If it is successful removing anything which you will be able to tell by the results, then run combofix and malwarebytes either in safe mode or 'regular mode' if you can get there.
