The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "SmileyDistrict" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Description:
SmileyDistrict is a Trojan that installs 3 components, one is SmileyDistrict itself, the second is WhenU and the 3rd is a Winlogon hijacker.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd), RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.

Entries named "Smiley District" and pointing to "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\plugin.exe".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) to locate and get rid of these entries.

Products that have a key or property named "SmileyDistrict".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\bf.dat".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\bm.dat".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\insmile.dll".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\OSmile.dll".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\plugin.dll".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\plugin.exe".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\SDHelp.url".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\SDistr.url".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\serv.dat".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\ver.dat".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict\WrdSmile.dll".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\tenbew.ini".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\vadrah.ini".
You may need to move the file "<$SYSDIR>\<$ENV(smileydll_Praefix)>.<$ENV(smileydll_Suffix)>" to "<$SYSDIR>\<$ENV(smileydll_Praefix)>.<$ENV(smileydll_Suffix)>_tobe_deleted".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If SmileyDistrict uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.

The directory at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\SmileyDistrict".
The directory at "<$PROGRAMS>\Smiley District".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If SmileyDistrict uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "InsertSmile.CoSmileInsertor.1", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "InsertSmile.CoSmileInsertor", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "OutlookSmile.OutlookSmile", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "WordSmile.WordSmile", plus associated values.
Delete the registry key "{0418F3E3-C763-4e02-9EC5-F0AE13B54B0F}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\".
Delete the registry key "{0E010CE6-25F7-436F-BAEE-5A646B31B9BF}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
Delete the registry key "{5D7FF769-928F-45C4-A02A-B6F9D7135493}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{6E36E190-77F9-48A1-B0F3-5698425CEE9B}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{6E36E190-77F9-48A1-B0F3-5698425CEE9B}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
Delete the registry key "{7961702E-4D6C-4578-982E-DDB0B0E58028}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\".
Delete the registry key "{C7BFA3EE-1A56-4501-9B9C-3A99AD8823EF}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{DD166BB8-2DFE-4E44-9404-3FACAD9E1C7A}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "<$ENV(smileydll_Praefix)>" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\".
Delete the registry key "1s" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\".
Delete the registry key "InsertSmile.DLL" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\".
Delete the registry key "OutlookSmile.OutlookSmile" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\".
Delete the registry key "Smiley District Corp" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\".
Delete the registry key "WordSmile.WordSmile" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\".
If SmileyDistrict uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=regalyzer), RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
