After loading the latest updates, I find that spybot now runs for a short while then hangs or cycles on coolwwwsearchfeat2dll. I ran cwshredder which did not find coolsearch. suggestions?

Hello.

CWS detection rules do slow scans; how much longer than usual is it hanging for you now?

Hi tashi,

Update. I uninstalled the problem version and loaded anew. all is now well. The scan takes less than 25 minutes.

Thanks

I just registered in this forum and the reason I'm replying to this thread is that I've been having a problem at the same spot in the scan (coolwwwsearchfeat2dll). I wrote to support and they referred me to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330137 . When I checked that out it did give the same response I was getting ('There is no disc in the drive. Please insert a disc into drive\device\hadrddisc\Dr1"). However, they indicated that this occured on Start-up. My problem only occurs when I try to use Spybot. I Had peviosly tried uninstalling spybot and re-installin it but that didn't help either. I've tried putting discs in every drive I have, plugging in my external hard drive, and even plugging in my jump drive in the USB port. Anyone have any other suggestions? I have been using Spybot for a couple years and hate to be without it but right now it's unusable.

try fixing the disk problems first by running "chkdsk" on the main hard drive first. also try running another utility like Lavasoft Ad-aware. I think the CoolWWWSearch thing made Spybot unusable as noted in another thread. see it here:
