View Full Version : S&D loads VERY slowly
As of this morning (5/23/2010) I have the latest version of S&D and the latest updates; I'm running XP Pro with plenty of speed, memory (and it's almost as good looking as I am :eek: ) but it still loads extremely slowly. Further, as it is loading my desktop is a "transparent" image behind the S&D display until it is fully loaded.
Anybody have a way to fix this? I saw an earlier post about v. 1.5 (?) that said the problem had been fixed but that's clearly not the case with my machine.

Do you have any other security software installed?
Have you already tried a fresh reinstall?

Yes, I did a fresh reinstall only a short while before posting the problem because I had seen the earlier posting that the problem had been corrected.
I've been running avast for several months but the problem pre-dates it. Previous to avast I used CA. Since I posted the problem I've noticed that Spybot might be considered to be loading a tiny bit faster, but not by much.
I also very recently had my machine tweaked by a friend / IT professional because it was running very slowly overall. It now zooms along like greased lightening on every application except S&D.
It occurs to me to run Task Manager while loading S&D; I have a suspicion that the loading process itself is a resource hog; yes? no? maybe?

that's because the spybot definition files have gotten quite bigger, thus the spybot program takes longer to load.
That seems to be the unavoidable answer, so I'll learn to live with it as long as Spybot does its job :).
When I start Spybot I have to wait about 20 seconds until the full GUI is loaded. Why is Spybot so slow compared to other tools? :worm:
Its an old program that needs overhauling but hopefully spybot 2 will address some of these problems :)
