HELP, google virus redirecting webpages

I have a Dell and run Windows XP. A few days ago my firefox broswer started redirecting my links during my google searches. Since then i have tried all the minimally envasive ways to fix the problem which i read on many helpsites. They are as follows:

running CCleaner
installing and running Spybot Search & Destory
installing and running Malwarebytes
uninstalling and reinstalling Java 6.20 (and removing all previous versions)
uninstalling and reinstalling Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3

as well as following the advice about .xul files from this link: http://spillspace.com/2009/new-firefox-virus/

in the meantime i have disabled java in my browser

I also continue to get Norton pop up notifications both when my web browser is open and when it is not. They tell me that a recent attempt to attack the computer has been blocked.

the activity is listed as: Rule "Default Block EPMAP" block.
or Unused port blocking has blocked communications.
and all end with Inbound TCP connection.

Double-click .exe that you downloaded
Click rootkit-tab, uncheck files option and then click scan.
Don't check
Show All
box while scanning in progress!
When scanning is ready, click Copy.
This copies log to clipboard

Then post the resultant log.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it

Prefetch
Java Cache
