Unsure on what is actually wrong, but somthing is seriously wrong with the pc

Hi,
Im not exactlly a noob to computers, but im no einstine either,
this is not my pc, its my fathers. He currently has no spyware/antivirus. The computer is a few years old. running win xp. and currentlly using explorer for his browser.


i had a "windows has found spyware on your computer" message pop up from the lower right hand corner (near clock) with a red circle and a white cross.. currently not showing up since i restarted. i know that windows cannot detect spy ware as xp is not equiped to do that.

I cannot access websites, for example i can sometimes go to a page eg google, and then the next it says, unable to display, so i press enter again in the address bar and it loads google.. this happens more often then not. or it wont allow me to open the pages no mater what i do.

I tried to d/l AVG (free) i can download, but i cannot install creates an error.
i tried to download spybot - i can download but i cannot install... tells me there is no connection.

once i get the situationn delt with and i can install things, i plann to buy an anti virus/spy. - not sure on the best option for him. but for now, can i please get the issues delt with some how??

This is the support forum for Spybot-S&D which is a free program for personal use. ;) There are free anti virus programs also. Once you have been helped by a volunteer analyst s/he will make program recommendations to suit your needs. :)

Please see this FAQ to post a preliminary DDS log: "BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Then start a new topic in the Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22) and copy paste the log into it, an analyst will advise you as soon as available.

If DDS won't run please start a new thread anyway and make note of the situation.
