Ok, it had been awhile since I'd run Spybot, so I;
started the application,
went to update ... and that's where my world lost sanity
unable to find server? tried half a dozen times
I tried going through the address under 'help' and no server
I tried going through Google and no server at safer-networking
I even tried going to PepiMK(?) which redirected me to ... no server.

I uninstalled Spybot 1.6.2 and then went to re-install it but can't because there's no server.

Just curious, because it has been awhile since I used it but, have I missed something?

It's possible there's something misfiring in my PC because I wanted to run Spybot after a problem with a particularly strange download.

Cheers

Shows that everything at Safer-Networking is working fine.

I'm using XP and I don't really know where the hosts file is :(

I'm going to try download the install file and updates file to a thumb and try installing that way.

Your hosts file is in C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\ and its name is "hosts" with no file extension; unset its read-only status by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" and then right-click the file again to open it in a text editor, like Notepad, and then remove everything but the line
127.0.0.1 localhostand save it and make it read-only again to see whether you still have a problem

I have been having a series of svchost.exe app errors and during the hunt to find the problem i turned to my spybot icon to run a check. Spybot would not launch. Thinking the problem may be a corrupt file i tried to d/l a fresh copy. google listed sites were listed but upon clicking them i got the "Sorry, we can't find "http://www.safer-networking.org/". Please check the spelling of the web address."
I was only able to get to this site by doing a search for "spybot will not start" search. Also, on many searches i get redirected to various commercial sites.
I am running WinXP pro sp2. ff3.6.8.
Also with the svchost.exe problem one solution said to get rktools from MS and run cleanspl.exe. D/L from MS do start either.
Are these problems related or do i have multiple problems?

Yes,all those problems could be related, though it's hard to say for sure. :)
