Windows 7 64 bit
On Cold boot or restart from sleep something is "Using the Hosts file" which takes minutes to "time out"
meanwhile there is no internet access
I tried a different DNS server- no change
Disabling DNSClient Services in Services removes the symptom as
Disabling (renaming) the Hosts file removes the symptom
using HOSTMAN
Avast problem same with/ without
Comodo Firewall- problem still there when disabled
Spybot with or without T-timer
with or without Windows defender
Windows firewall is off

Another windows 7 System with Spybot Immunize only Hosts size but rest of the software the same works fine.

Word is that you do not have to disable DNSClient Services in Win 7 as you do in XP
Might be wrong

Anyone else with this set of experiences?
Which of these "protect" System 32 and or Hosts? or would feel that they have to lock or scan Host file
CPU is maxed out
Thanks

Do you have Spyware Blaster?

How do you know the CPU maxes out?

have spywareblaster

monitor wth taskmanager see below

Update
System or some program still processing/ using host file upon restart/resume/ wakeup from"sleep" (with dnscach enabled)
With hostsoptimizer it does not "hang" nearly as long- almost usable
however I see no performance penalty with dnscache disabled in "services"
I thought this was supposed to have been fixed even in vista! (I skipped Vista)
so let's spread the word

On ctl alt del = taskmanager I clicked the "performance" tab and the tabs disappeared and I cannot navigate to "Applications" or "Processes" ( persists after reboot) just see the CPU stats
makes it hard to track down what's running :)

Thanks

temptation among the unwashed is to always blame MS, Tea Timer Firewall or AV
would like to crack this one

ran some scans at Comodo's request
avast, MBAM, SAS, Spybot all clean :)
now to find out what is chewing up the cycles if dnscache is enabled n services
