Hello slvr216,

On Monday, I tried to download the latest detection rules for Spybot and got this message: !!!Bad Check!!!. How do I work around this and get the detection rules I need to scan my computer for viruses?:thanks:
Just to clarify, Spybot-S&D is not an anti virus program. The application searches for spyware, malware, adware, trojans, hijackers and keyloggers. :)

Bad checksum messages can often be resolved by choosing another mirror.

Which version of Spybot-S&D do you have? Open Spybot Search & Destroy > Help > About.

Best regards.

I have version 1.6.2.46.

The last date I could update the detection rules was on 9/15/2010. I update the rules every Monday morning. This is the second week that I have not been able to update.

Thanks for responding to my post.

Hi slvr216,

This is the second week that I have not been able to update.
By any chance has the computer shown signs of infection?

Best regards. :)

HUmmm...web pages were taking a longer time to upload. There were pages I couldn't open. Are those signs of infection? I disconnected the wireless router, waited for 30 seconds, and things seemed to open faster.

Hello slvr216,

Could you try this please, download the updates manually (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html).

The direct download link (http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe). Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.

Cheers

Thanks for this information. I need to run this on my husband's computer, too. Can I save the file to a thumbdrive and run it on his machine?

Hello slvr216,

I need to run this on my husband's computer, too.
Two computers can't download updates? Are they networked?

Best regards. :)

Can the other computers download updates? :)

Husband's computer has the same problem I do. Son's computer is Linux so he doesn't use Spybot. Haven't tried with the other laptop yet.

Thank you for staying in the conversation and responding so quickly.

Hi there,

Husband's computer has the same problem I do.
If you have a firewall installed, check to see if SpybotSD.exe is authorized to access the internet.

Thanks for this information. I need to run this on my husband's computer, too. Can I save the file to a thumbdrive and run it on his machine?
Yes, if you know the computers and the thumbdrive are clean of infection. :) Perhaps use the manual update on your own PC first and run a scan.

Thanks for your help. Will run Spybot this evening before I shut down. If everything works OK, will run on my husband's machine.
