View Full Version : SpySheriff - Problems after removal

Here's my story:
My computer was all of a sudden infected by SpySheriff... Though I managed to remove the program, the related dll and fixed the registry by using Ad-aware manually. Just when I thought everything was over, I noticed it created an "Administrator" account in my computer, which is now, I believe, is stopping me/restricting me to open any ware ie MSN messager, AIM, IE and more. I tried to delete the account but it won't let me... There's two account in my computer right, one is mine, one is the admin account that SpySheriff created. When I'm on my own account, the admin account won't show up to me in Control Panel so I can't delete it. I CAN access the admin account in safe mode though, but it says "You can't delete this account when you're at it. You need to get on another account to delete this account blah blah" so I'm screwed.

A few minutes ago I tried to follow these instruction
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
to get some log file, but

1) Run an on-line Anti Virus scan.
It required IE to run, which I can't use now as mentioned above.

3) Open Spybot-S&D while still in safe mode.
It won't even let me install it. A message box popped up at the mid-way of installation. (It's that common error message with "Report this problem" and "Don't report this problem" button. I'm not using an english window so I don't know the exact wording but I hope you know what I mean. Actually the same message box appeared when I tried to open MSN, AIM, IE etc too)

So these are the two log files I can only get for now:

Hello.

A helper will take a look as soon as available but meanwhile please see:

You and Windows, a joint effort (http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=25290&postcount=4)

Is there a reason Windows has not been up-dated or patched?

FYI:
SUMMARY
This step-by-step article describes how to disable the local Administrator account. This information does not apply to the Domain Administrator account in an Active Directory domain.

Important Before you disable the local Administrator account, make sure that another user (on the domain or a local user) is a member of the local Administrators group.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281140

What type of account do you have on the PC and are there other user accounts.

So
I locked the Administrator account. Nothing happened. MSN, AIM, IE. Still can't be used.

If you do not have a legitimate copy of Windows
You are right. I do realize it may give you difficulty in fixing my computer now. If you think that helping me would be a complete waste of time, I would just refommat my computer and install a legit Window and I won't be complaining.

Thank you for your attention anyway.
