Hi, I'm getting a rundll error loading message when I turn on my computer. I tried adaware and spybot, but it didn't work. I read some other posts and using highjack this seems to be a common solution. I don't really know how to use it and I haven't gone further than getting the logfile below. Any help is appreciated. J

Thanks for returning this information, let me first say that your Java program needs to be updated as soon as possible, see this:

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
3) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall My Web Search Bar, look while there and uninstall anything else you know does not belong there, if you are unsure let me know and I will look.
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [My Web Search Bar] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL,S

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
C:\PROGRAM FILES ~1\MYWEBS~1\ <<< delete that folder (should be MYWEBSEARCH or similiar)
6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with any comments you think will help. Let me know how the computer is running now.

PS, thanks for your help. I updated the Java program, then did the checking/unchecking of files. Then, I was unable to find My Web Search Bar under install/remove programs. So I have stopped here and not gone on to the rest of the instructions. Any ideas?

PS, followed the instructions. I was able to do all except for locating and deleting the folder from PROGRAM FILES called something like MYWEBSEARCH. I didn't see it and did a search and still couldn't find it. But I did everything else. When I restarted the computer the error message was gone! I checked one thing that had been giving me problems wih the error message-- opening up yahoo tv guide-- and it is working again. I don't have time now to stay and play on the computer, but I can check later.
Do you think it's fixed? Do you have any ideas as to how I got this problem? What is the ATF cleaner? Thanks for all of your help and for hanging in there with me. Below is new log file.

You know, I was having problems with Yahoo TV Guide myself, so that may have been Yahoo and not related, mine is working today also. Here is one I use as a spare if you are in the states:

PS, thanks so much for your help. I'm reasonably confident that the computer is working well. The error message is gone. I'm a bit concerned that, as I was reading the material from the sites you suggested on keeping my computer safe, and as I was installing some new things, twice the screen suddenly changed and said that the file was not available, and it gave me a long list of other sites to look at, and they all seemed like commercial, spy-filled sites. This same thing happened a few times after I got the original rundll error message.
I'm wondering if I installed too many new things and that caused this to happen. I installed the spyblaster, hosts, and windows defender. I decided to keep internet explorer as my browser, but I haven't made the changes that were suggested to make it safer; the reason being that I'm not sure what the implications will be to my daily use. It seemed that alot of the changes had to do with activex and changing settings to require prompts. Any advice if you think I should go ahead with those changes?
Anyway, after I installed these programs, I played hearts on msn game zone, and didn't have any problems. After I got that error message, it was definitely messing up the hearts game. So I'm hopeful that the computer is in good shape. I'll see what happens in the next couple of days.
