View Full Version : win32.autorun.tmp problem

The problem started when I brought my USB into class to load a file on a class comp. A random autorun.inf installed itself on my USB and I didn't notice it. Came home, plugged the USB into one of my computers (comp1 running XP) and deleted the random autorun.inf. Moved some files to the another computer (comp2 running Vista) and noticed that autorun.inf had returned. Tried to delete it, to no avail. It said the file was in use. Managed to finally delete it, but it came back and now I can't delete it (or reformat the drive).

Ran a spybot scan on both computers.
Comp1 returns with win32.autorun.tmp among other spyware, pressed fix and it said all problems were fixed. Ran it again and win32.autorun.tmp pops up again.
Comp2 came back clean.

The random autorun.inf now seems to be created whenever I plug the USB into either computer. Wondering what I should do. Any help would be appreciated.

I update my computers regularly as well as Spybot and Symantec.

DDS report on comp1 posted below:

Nevermind, fixed the problem.

First downloaded Malwarebytes and updated it.
Rebooted computer in safe mode and ran the scan.
Found the troublesome malware that spybot had somehow missed (classified as an autorun program or something like that).
Fixed the problems.

I disabled autorun and used cmd to delete the autorun.inf file on the flash drive without actually accessing the flash drive through explorer. I then reformatted the flash drive.

So far, no more problems. Spybot and Malwarebytes now returns a clean sweep. Flash drives no longer have mysterious autorun.inf files appearing. Hopefully that killed the sucker.

In the process of destroying it, I found that the autorun.inf was accessing a file called usecure32.exe, for future reference. I might have had two different malware (the other being win32.autorun.tmp). Who knows, they are all gone now.
