Help! When trying to install MS update KB kb2296011, I am getting setup error comctl32.dll is open.

Try saving the update (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/confirmation.aspx?familyid=912A7C20-8177-4F65-B986-43FCA6375EC1&displaylang=en) to your desktop, double click and follow the prompts.
Tried saving to my desktop and running the executable. I get an error stating that comctl32.dll is open or in use by another application.

Try rebooting then running the .exe
Tried to run locally after the reboot to no avail.

a long shot, but you can try System File Checker:

I downloaded the file and rebooted the machine in safe mode. After the system came up in safe mode I ran the local file and it installed.
