• Welcome Guest, to the Spybot Forums! It's 2025, and we just upgraded our forum software.

    Today is Safer Internet Day, and with our new forum, you can finally use passkeys to login. That was about time!

    Of course, you could ask if a forum is still useful, with so many social media networks out there where you might already have an account, and met a lot of users. You can now use your login from some of those networks to log in here. And by posting here, your question and data is stored on our servers and not automatically shared with a whole social media network.

    We'll also start using the forum for small bits of information, announcements and more again.

Spybot freezes on certain scan...

Its the one after reboot puter, before desktop icons appear I let it scan for bout an hour or so, it actually went past the max number so I pressed the stop check button it turned all white so was forced to terminate it. Tried it again rebooted and stopped the scan after a couple of numbers to test it out again, it was all white so had to terminate it again. Spybot version 1.72 and am using Windows XP.

(All other scans after desktop and after desktop in safemode)

Hello,

The scan could hang when the stop button was pressed in an automated scan. This was a little bug.

Please download this SpybotSD.exe file as fix.

To use this file extract the downloaded archive into the main application folder (usually C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\).

Replace it with the files in your Spybot program folder. If the SpybotSD.exe is hidden, make it visible:

* Using Windows Explorer navagate to:
o C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
* In the Tools menu select Folder Options…
* In the Folder Options dialog select the View tab.
* Uncheck the following option:
o Hide protected operating system file (Recommended)
* Click the Apply button.
* Click the OK button.
* The files should now be displayed

This problem is also mentioned here.

Best regards
Sandra
