Take note of the following before we begin
Post to this thread only and please stick to it until I say your pc is clean.
The instructions I give are for This computer only and should not be used on any other pc.
Do NOT run any tools/scans unless I instruct you to.
Try not to install/uninstall any programs while we work. This will add extra time researching your logs.
If you have found assistance elsewhere and no longer require our help, please say so, and this topic will be closed.
If you have any problems, please stop and ask before proceeding with any fixes.
Note: As I'm still in training, everything I post must be checked by a teacher first. So there may be a slight delay in between posts.

Also, you are running an unsupported operating system, why is that? is Windows able to update?

Is this pc used for business or ever connected to a network? what do you use this for:
C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\cvpnd.exe

Thank you

Hi, Thanks for helping. This computer belongs to my boss. It's his home computer and he uses the cisco vpn to access our system here at work. I did not notice that vista sp2 had not been installed. Do I need to update to sp2?

The os update should not be done if the pc is infected.

Please confirm, we do not help with work related computers?

I will need to have my post checked by a teacher before posting, so there may be a small delay.

Thank you

It is a home computer not his business computer.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay

DeFogger
Please download DeFogger from here (http://www.jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/Defogger.exe) to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger.exe to run the tool.
The application window will appear
Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
Click Yes to continue
A 'Finished!' message will appear
Click OK
DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

-------------------------------------------

GMER Rootkit Scanner
Please download from Here (http://www.gmer.net/download.php) and save it to a folder at C:\Gmer\
Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
(if using Vista: right-click and select Run as Administrator)
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO
In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (Leave C:\ Checked)
Show All (don't miss this one)
See image below
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll435/melboy08/GMER_2.png

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your next reply. Please also post fresh dds logs (dds.txt & attach.txt).
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries
Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

If GMER has problems running (blue screens, crashes) let me know, do not run it again.

No problem with the delay. I've been busy myself. Defogger seemed to run ok but GMER crashed when I ran it.

Thanks

OK but try to keep the pc offline as much as possible.

Thanks

If you moved Gmer to a folder like I said, please rename the folder to a random name also.

Please reboot the computer, run Gmer again with Devices UNchecked and see if it works?

If it still gives you problems try running it in Safe Mode (do this by restarting the computer, tapping F8 on boot, then choosing Safe Mode)

Booting into Safe Mode safely (http://www.malwareremoval.com/tutorials/safemodeboot.php)

Please post the Gmer log and new dds logs.

Thanks

edit:
are you still being redirected? have you ran any fixes on the pc yourself?
