Are you referring to Microsoft Security Essentials? Good program, it really depends on your own needs and how it's working for you.

Is your XP operating system kept up to date with all service packs and patches and which firewall are you using?

Hello sigmundf,

There is no need to start two topics plus a post in the original thread for the same issue, or "send email notice" ;)

Is your XP operating system kept up to date with all service packs and patches and which firewall are you using?

If you do not have a service pack on Windows XP it is very possible the computer is infected.

I'm getting that error message and I did not try to uninstall security essentials. It won't load at startup and I get that error message instead. Should I uninstall it now?

It seems like a reinstall is in order.
What operating system?
Prior Security Software?
Any security software still installed?
A possible reason for this problem is that you have conflicting security software installed fully or partially on the PC. Remove all other security software from the PC.
You may need to use a cleanup tool to remove your prior security software:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msestart/thread/407bf6da-c05d-4546-8788-0aa4c25a1f91

If that fails to resolve the problem, open a support case:
