View Full Version : Computer Infected System Tools 2.20

Wasel
2010-12-14, 02:11
I am in need of assistance. I cannot run DDS or any anti-spyware / anti-virus programs. Error comes up in a ballon saying that the 'file name' is infected and cannot run. Program wants me to buy a solution from system tools 2.20. It says there are 38 infections. Cheap looking rip-off of spybot or the like.

After a while the system reboots. Starts OK - but as it comes up suddenly background screen goes purple and words of caution are all over.

Where do I start? How do I start?

Wasel

The Machine has multiple profiles. The one that is infected is the administrator profile. All other profiles are good. However, although I can run antivirus from the other profiles, I cannot run spybot from the other profiles because of privilages. And.. since I can't run any exe programs inside the admin profile - I'm still stuck - cannot change 'rights'.

What can I do?

Can I run something from another profile?

Do I boot from a disk?

Thank you, Wasel

Hi,

Rename DDS file to iEXPlore.exe and see if you're able to run it.

Hi

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

UPDATE: I was able to get into the infected profile and run DDS. The results are provided and attached.

ALSO - It appears the system tools virus is dormant - not sure why. Is it suddenly gone? I still have an ICON on my desktop.

Thanks for all teh help.

Wasel
