View Full Version : CMDService possibly others?

Hi there,
I was hoping someone could help me. I keep getting an AOL SSC message saying CmdService blocked. And it happens every 5-10 minutes. Also my comp is lagging severely and having issues connecting to the net occasionally. I'm pretty good at safety and security but this comp was a gift (used) and the previous owner did not exactly know how to keep a comp safe. I've deleted several viruses, and spybot misses the cmdservice bug. I've booted in safe mode and run a bunch of scans with spybot and AOL SSC. Still not picking up anything, but this comp is definitely not acting normally. Below is my hijackthis log. Thanks for any help you could give me.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I am sorry about the wait, many, many logs and few volunteers. You are infected, I see Vundo trojan, Troj/Drsmartl-I, Troj/Agent-IC, and a bunch of junk I can't even identify. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, post a fresh HJT log and I will do my best to clean you up. If your issues are resolved, please post to let me know so I can close your topic.
Thanks...pskelley

I understand, the Vundo trojan is a tough one, I prefer not to fool with it myself:scratch:
Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
Do you know what this item is for? O1 - Hosts: 216.19.0.250 idenupdate.motorola.com
Thanks to Atribune and anyone else who helped with this fix:
Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
I would normally move on, but this trojan has been so tricky, I would like to see it gone before going after other junk. You would be wise to keep this computer offline until you are clean, this junk does attract other junk.
Thanks...Phil

Thanks for returning your information, looks like vundo is gone:bigthumb: and that is some good news, let's see if anything is left.
we are removing this trojan and you need to read what it has done and take any needed steps to protect your security:
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojagentic.html
1) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall any program you know does not belong there. If you are unsure, let me know and I will look.
2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
4) Microsoft AntiSpyware needs to be turned off it will block changes we must make:
Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Please see this information, but do not download new programs until we finish:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/defender.htm
5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Ok so when I clicked on explore and then tried to locate those files the only ones I was able to find were sqldata and the oqmw folder. I deleted these ran the atf program and rebooted. I also updated my java program and uninstalled the onler versions. I am still getting the CmdService blocked message from AOL SSC and when I go to shut down my computer it opens up a gray window that says a program with a whole bunch of random letters as its name is shutting down and gives the option to end now.
Here is my new HJT log:

Thanks for the feedback, let's chat a moment. First, I have, and would not have anything aol on my computer, so I have no idea what SSC is? If this is an issue in Spybot S&D, I will try to address it before we finish. At times HJT will remove files before I can get to them manually, I will know more once I look at the log.
when I go to shut down my computer it opens up a gray window that says a program with a whole bunch of random letters as its name is shutting down and gives the option to end now.
This means nothing to me, I need error messages "word for word" just the way you would Google them.
I see no evidence of any malware in the HJT log, let's take a look at an ewido scan to be sure:
ewido scan:
First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.
Try this fix for the Command.exe issue, let me know if it works:
Please download and unzip Ren-cmdservice to your desktop.
It will only work correctly if the folder is placed on your desktop and extracted !!.
http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/ren-cmdservice.zip
Open the ren-cmdservice folder by doubleclicking it and then doubleclick the
ren-cmdservice.bat file to run the program.
A text will open when it is finished, Post it please.
Then restart the PC run spybot check for and fix any problems found.
Post the ewido scan results, along with the text from Ren-cmdservice. Let me know how things are running now.
Thanks

That program by ewido is amazing it found 14 threats in 29 traces including 2 trojans, I ran the ren-cmdservice program and it said that cmdservice wasn't present. My AOL safety and security center (SSC) has stopped giving me blocked messages so I'm thinking that somewhere along the way it was deleted yay!:bigthumb: Here's my next question, now that the traces are quarantined in ewido should I delete them permanently? Here is the scan report:

Also I don't think that the AOL antivirus program (SSC) on this computer is doing it's job all that well as it was the only program on this computer when it was given to me. I really don't have the cash to be running around trying to buy a top of the line security program like I have on my desktop. What would you recommend installing on this computer that would be free/cheap and secure enough that this won't happen again?
I appreciate all your help you have been wonderful! You are the king! :crowned:

That sounds good, sure you ran it according to the instructions? Won't work anywhere else.
ewido will be covered in the closing, but I suggest you clean out quarantine, turn ewido off (disable in services) and let it set in case you need a good scanner, updates are free, just not the realtime protection. Utrned off it just uses a little disk space.
If you are looking for free antivirus, I suggest AVG by Grisoft. (put it on my sisters new Dell) There is no tech support but when was the last time you got any help from an AV tech support? Here is the link and a couple more:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
http://www.free-av.com/
If you are looking for free spyware help, what I run is SpywareBlaster/SpywareGuard and IE-Spyad. You will read about them in these links:
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

If there is more we can do, let us know, if not tashi:) will close your topic in a day or so.
