View Full Version : Malware - Spybot & AVG Scans Won't Run

badrush

I seem to be infected with some malware that has disabled the scans from AVG and Spybot S&D. AVG seems to still be running but the scan whole computer function doesn't work. When trying to run spybot I get a message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item." I tried to install Malwarebyte's AntiMalware and as soon as I tried to run it, it crashed back to the desktop.

The AVG anti-rootkit module scan could be run but didn't find anything. The AVG identity protection module resident did find "C:WINDOWS\system32\USeRINIT.EXE" upon the first reboot of the computer after the infection and it was quarantined.

I was able to run the ESET Online Scanner and it did not find anything, the log is below:

============= FINISH: 22:08:54.50 ===============

I found out "Antivirus 2010" had been the problem. My wife came across it while surfing the internet and started it when it popped up, thinking it was our already installed AVG. I was able to kill vbma5c15.sys which then let me run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which cleaned up the remainder. Spybot S&D & AVG scans seem clean now, do you recommend any other scans?
