Hi.
Last week or so I got tricked into thinking I was updating Firefox and this "Windows Protection Suite" .exe started running, with no option to cancel the installation. Ever since, search engines like Yahoo and Google have been acting completely haywire, redirecting me to other sites.
Today I installed and updated SpyBot Search & Destroy with the hope of removing this malware.
SpyBot successfully rid my machine of multiple tracking cookies, but it has also identified a few problems that it is unable to do anything about:
Fraud.WindowsProtectionSuite, w/ 14 entries.
Microsoft.Windows.Redirected Hosts w/ 3 entries.
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled, which apparently has disabled my legitimate Windows Security Center, making me more vunerable to attacks.
When I attempt to Fix these problems, I get a pop-up that says:
Unexpected error in fixing problems
(Cannot create file
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts". Access is denied)
How can I rid myself of this infection? Thank you.
