Hey I got this really bad bug and a popup on the taskbar told me about it, now I have been getting uncontrolled popups and it is very difficult to access the web without multiple windows showing up.
I ran spybot on startup and it seemed to remove a few things however I am still experiencing many popups and other internet related things. Here is my HijackThis Log, any help would be very appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum, sorry for the wait, if you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, let's do this.

1) Download and run this uninstaller: http://www.outerinfo.com/howto.html

2) Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks for your comments and for returning the information, follow the directions in this link:
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php
Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post the SmitfraudFix Report and a new HJT log. We will have more to do.

Thanks

Hey, thanks for the reply, I tried to restart in safe mode however it would not accept my password so I had to start the computer in safe mode with networking. Hope thats not a problem. I ran the fix and here are my new reports. Thanks.

Hey, thanks for the reply, I tried to restart in safe mode however it would not accept my password so I had to start the computer in safe mode with networking.
Looks like it worked, but where is the password? Safe Mode is the diagnostic mode and you should be able to move in and out of it when needed. I suggest all maintenance like scan disk and defrag be done in safe mode. I would be finding that password if I were you.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\ <<< out of date see this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

Check me on these two item:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\suss.exe: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/suss/

C:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exe: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/alg/
If they are both valid for your system, fine, if you have any doubts check them out here:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

These two items: the CLSID number checks out for Java, but the file:
clbcatix.dll does not scan good at all, take a look:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/clbcatix.dll-8465.html
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=clbcatix%2Edll
Unless you know these are safe, I think you should remove them.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Purityscan adware variant

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

javaw.dll <<< see if you can locate and delete that file
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, let me have any information I asked for.

Thanks

Ok here are the updates:

Java Runtime - UPDATED
suss.exe and alg.exe I think they are needed but I double checked by scanning them at kapersky.com and it said they are safe.
Clbcatix.dll is a bad file and needs to be removed

I tried to remove the files you told me to in HJT except there was an error removing javaw.dll and it could not be removed, but everything else was removed ok.

I then searched my hard drive for javaw.dll but it wasnt found.

The ATF Cleaner worked fine and freed up a lot of space.

Here is the new HJT report:

Thanks for the information, we do have a problem though. You are picking up new stuff as you go. This:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cool.exe is scanning as: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=cool%2Eexe
and it just appeared new in the HJT log??? This item:
O16 - DPF: {97B79133-88F0-45F0-8D57-0F2EF27D9C66} - http://85.255.114.166/1/rdgCA2404.exe is also new and the number is the same number as the Ukranian hijackers who show up with a Wareout infection, take a look:

Where is this computer being taken online to pick up this junk??
That second item got in through ActiveX, you need to review this information and check those settings:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

In fact, here is the balance of the links I usually provide at the end, so you can see the suggestions by these experts:
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://cybercoyote.org/security/not-admin.shtml

You can scan this item if you wish to be sure: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cool.exe

Since it is in Running Processes and not in the bottom part of the log, you need to stop it from running. Use Task Manager, or HJT like this:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#HTProcessManager to kill the running process, then:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O16 - DPF: {97B79133-88F0-45F0-8D57-0F2EF27D9C66} - http://85.255.114.166/1/rdgCA2404.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cool.exe <<< delete the file

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, let me have some information about how this junk is getting on your system.

I am concerned with these two Proxies:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http://camipxy:80
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 167.17.*; 10.100.*; 192.168.0.*;<local>
Can you assure me these are both valid for your computer. If you have to get the information from your ISP.

Thanks

Ok cool.exe was removed as well as the Ukranian Hijacker thing and clbcatix.dll was also removed which is good. I really dont know how I am picking up all this junk I have barely used the internet since my last post, this is the main site I have been going to. Also, now when I click on the links you provided it takes me to porn sites (example URL: teentonic.com) but then I click back and click on the link again and it works fine, so I take it I am being redirected the first time but then not again.

Also, the two proxies you mentioned, I have no idea why they are there, I didn't create them or anything so I think we should remove them.

The links are all working ok for me, must be something redirecting them. Were they still doing that once you removed the items from the log and rebooted?
I edited out the one link that must have changed to Tony Klein's message, and replaced it with one that is working well.

I can tell you this about those Proxies, the second one has to do with: http://www.chubbsecurity.com/
the other does not idenitify, only the port it is using. If you are sure (and this is your computer and not a work computer) you do not want to ask your ISP, then remove them. I will do that with HJT, look at this information for your browser, and I supplied several looks at it:
http://support.mcihispeed.net/mu/500/psc/img/walkthroughs/windows_9x_nt/browsers/ie_6.0/8445.mci.html
http://www.nacs.uci.edu/network/proxy/proxy-win.html
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/en/guide/winprox.html

Looking at the HJT log, this item is still there: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cool.exe Did you restart the computer, the changes in the log would not take place until you do? Check it again with Search Companion, navigate to the folder to make sure it is gone. If it is there, run ATF-Cleaner (all areas) right after you delete it in case something in Prefetch or Temp is putting it back. I hope that file is not going to give us trouble.
As soon as you clean those proxies from your browser, then run HJT and remove the two lines, remove this one also if you don't know why it is there:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.chubbsecurity.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http://camipxy:80
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 167.17.*; 10.100.*; 192.168.0.*;<local>

I see ewido in your Services, would you update it and run a complete system scan according to these instructions, no need to download again since you have it, and it will do a better job in safe mode.
First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

Post the ewido scan report, a new HJT log and let me know what you think. This fix has gotten more complex that it should have been??

Thanks...Phil

Ok well the good news is that I am no longer getting redirected when I click on links.
As for the proxies; the computer is a personal computer used for work so the chubbsecurity proxy should stay there but the other proxy you mentioned that doesn't properly identify itself I think we should remove. How should I go about doing that?
I redeleted cool.exe and then ran ATF Cleaner then restarted so I am hoping it is now gone.
Also, I ran ewido and it found several things however it wasn't able to remove 1.

Here are the requested logs:

Thanks for the information, looks like ewido quarantined or deleted on reboot what it found. You might want to run that scan again to make sure it is clean. As far as that proxy, I posted links for three different looks at how to remove it. Once you remove it from your Browser, then use HJT to remove it from the HJT log IF it is there.

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

I'd say you are good to go, tashi will close the topic in a day or so. Keep in mind I do not know who uses this computer, but those infections had to be picked up somewhere. The advice in the links I provided will go far towards preventing this from happening.

Thanks...pskelley
