Hello chidori,

Welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller (http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip).
Unzip it to it’s own folder (c:\BFU)

RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu) and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcra Remover. Save it in the folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Open My Computer and navigate to the c:\BFU folder. Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

In the scriptline to execute field copy and paste c:\bfu\alcanshorty.bfu
Press execute and let it do it’s job.

Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Please download Qoofix by RubbeR DuckY from http://www.malwarebytes.org/Qoofix.zip

Unzip all files to a convenient location such as C:\Qoofix.
Go to the folder you unzipped all files and run Qoofix.exe.
Click Begin Removal and wait for the scan to finish.
If an infection has been found, select yes to restart your computer.

Finally post a new Hijack This log and the contents of the Qoofix logfile. Please let me know how your computer is running now. :)

Thanks,
tea

below is the Qoofix log:

Qoofix v1.02 by http://www.malwarebytes.org
Scan started on [7/28/2006] at [8:20:37 AM]
-------------------------------------------------------------
No malicious modules found!
-------------------------------------------------------------
No Qoologic infected files found!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Scan COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY on [7/28/2006] at [8:21:20 AM]

Note: Some registry keys may have been removed.

A couple of questions...
1. since Qoofix didn't find any infected file, does this mean we got rid of the pop-up malware? What exactly did I get infected with?
2. can I keep bfu and qoofix and run these 2 regularly (like with Spybot) to exterminate malware?
3. I have spywareblaster, spybot, ad-aware se installed. plus, i installed iespyad (adds lots of junk sites to the restricted zone). anything else I can install to protect my computer?
4. yesterday i tried to run ad-aware se and it re-boots my cumputer 3 seconds into the search (my computer suddenly reboots itself right when ad-aware finds 2 malware modules) --> i'm going to test this right now, will report back. any idea why this is happening? could the malware cause ad-aware to reboot machine?

As I'm composing this, no pop-ups so far :bigthumb: Great! I appreciate all your help teacup!

Hello,

We still have quite a bit to do to clean this up. Then we'll talk prevention. :)

Look in your control panel's add/remove programs for PuritySCAN By OIN, OuterInfo, OIN, Cowabanga or similar. Click on it and then click remove.

Reboot and if found, delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\PurityScan

If not listed, download and run this uninstaller:
http://www.outerinfo.com/OiUninstaller.exe
http://www.outerinfo.com/howto.html
Tutorial for the uninstaller if needed

Reboot when done and if found, delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\PurityScan

Please download, install, and update Ewido anti-spyware (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/)

Load Ewido and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close ewido. Do not run it yet.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode, please restart your computer. Tap F8 before Windows loads. Select Safe Mode on the screen that appears.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

In Safe Mode, load Ewido and click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
Ewido will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
Restart back into Normal Mode.

In your reply, please post the report from Ewido and a new HijackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running. :)

Thanks,
tea
