I notice that when I logon to my Non Administrator account in Windows XP sp3 I have a small Spybot icon in the tray group near the clock at the bottom of the screen. Right clicking on that icon brings out a small dialog box.
When I log on to my password Administrator account there isn't any icon like that near the clock but a launch/shortcut icon shows on the desktop page and Spybot shows up in the Start menu. Is there something I can do to put an icon down with the clock?
Is Spybot only supposed to be able to be changed from an Administrator account but not from a Limited Account? It can launch a scan from either account.

It sounds like you have teatimer enabled on the non-administrator account, and not enabled on the administrator account.
There's a little more info about teatimer here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/33.html

To check, login to the administrator account, then open Spybot, click Mode,Advanced Mode,Tools,Resident, and see if there is a checkmark beside Resident "Teatimer".
Do the same with the non-administrator account.

Once you read more about it,you can decide whether you want to enable or disable teatimer on either account. :)

Interesting. I got a message that I needed to be on Administrator account to use the Advanced mode but I was able to click through it. I unchecked TeaTimer and the icon disappeared. Did not see a "Run As" which sometimes comes on this logon to ask for my password. I thought that turning off part of Spybot in an Administrator account would cause the settings to change in the Limited Accounts.
Distressing that Norton/Symantec which I have seems to fight with the TeaTimer. Norton sometimes reports in its History log that it has blocked Spybot from doing something. Thank you. It is frightening to read about some of the hacked computers on the Malware forum. I wonder how many of them got hacked by driveby-not even having clicked on something, just landed on a bad web site. I have my Java turned off now but if I find out something I want doesn't work I might have to turn it on again. I have 1.6.0_23 but don't know if there is a different one attached to my Internet Explorer 8 (I usually use Firefox because it makes it easy to see if the plugins are updated).

Most things with Spybot can be controlled from the Adminstrator account, but not teatimer. That needs to be enabled or disabled by logging into each account,as I recall. :)

If there are any versions of Java installed that are older than 1.6.0_23,you should be able to uninstall them from the add/remove control panel:

Keeping in mind what is/isn't compatible with Norton, there are a few things you can do to help prevent being infected listed in this topic:
