View Full Version : While running Spybot 3/4 of the way restarts computer...
Hey guys,
I am getting frustrated with Spybot. It keeps restarting my computer about 3/4 of the way while scanning. I've tried the scan in safemode and for a while it was restarting there too, and last night I had it go though all the way. So I figured I'd try it in normal mode and about 3/4 of the way though it just restarts. I've used 2 different online virus scanners and found nothing. Plus my Norton has found nothing. I don't get any pop ups with error messages. The computer will run for days until I scan it and then it restarts.
I checked the registry and nothing funny there. I've ran CWshredder and it found nothing. I'm starting to run out of options :(
Any ideas or how to walk though finding why spybot does this so far into a scan?

Hello,
Your log seems to be clean.
Spybot is quite CPU intensive. It is possible that the CPU overheating and the system is shutting down to protect the processor. Make sure that the fans are running and that dust is cleared from any ventilation ports in the case.
The problem can happen in both desktops and laptops, although the problem is more prevalent in laptops.
If you have a laptop with one of the one of the following processors:
- Mobile Pentium III-M
- Mobile Pentium 4-M
- Mobile Pentium 4
- Mobile Pentium M / Centrino
- Mobile AMD
Take a look at following suggestion by 100mill:

If you have a desktop consider opening the case and checking to make sure the CPU heat sink is not too dusty. Doubt that this can be a problem, read the following threads:
