My computer seems to have been taken over by AVG Fake and i cannot remove it. It has bypassed the McAfee security and i cannot access the internet either. I have ran a full virus scan and nothing shown up.
I have not clicked any AVG links and have put the computer into safe mode.
Do you know how much information this virus has access to, as i do my banking and paypal accounts on this computer?
How do i remove it?
Thanks.
Sorry i did not get back to my computer before my original thread was removed. Since then i have followed instructions found on the net and managed to remove some of the virus as i can now get on the net and the pop ups have stopped. I think i removed something in win32 called debugger.
Any help to check if this has been successful would be well appreciated.
I have attached the attach.txt and paste DDS.txt
Thanks.

Hi,

Just so you know that threads are closed if no response in 3 days.

Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

Please download Malwarebytes from Here (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php) or Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/MBAMCapture.jpg
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Post the report please

OTL by OldTimer

Download OTL (http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe) to your desktop.
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.

Hi,

Looks like Malwarebytes removed a backdoor bot, I would strongly urge you to use a known clean computer and change all of your passwords for sites that you frequent, especially online stores that you shop at and if you do any banking.

I need to see the OTL log per my instructions as I am sure there is more to remove

Cannot get the ESET scan to run. When i click to install activex control it seems to freeze the computer up and i have to turn it off at the mains as i cannot close the web page down.
I'll try a few more times.
Thanks.

You can try this one, these online scanners are somewhat finicky, will run on some systems and bogs down on others

Please go to Kaspersky website (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html) and perform an online antivirus scan.

Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button: Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives
Click on My Computer under Scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Please post this log in your next reply .

Report ran straight off in safe mode. Not sure if this makes a difference or not.
C:\Program Files\Live-Player\live-player.exe a variant of Win32/Adware.LivePlayer.AA application cleaned by deleting - quarantined

Only 1 file showed up in the scan.

Thanks.

How are things running now ?

Computer seems to be running fine.
After changing passwords on a clean computer would it be safe to do online banking and shopping ? or just use for surfing the net.
Anything i can do more to stop this happening again ?
Is it normal for this type of virus to bypass Mcafee.

Once again big thanks for all your help!!

Well, when you get a virus like this sometimes it leaves your computer compromised, that means that it may not be trusted. You did have a backdoor bot which means it had the capabilities to enter your system and steal passwords, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, if it did this I really dont know. You will need to keep a lookout for any unauthorized transactions on your accounts. Most times its best just to do a format and reinstall of windows to be sure, but it looks like its gone, so give it a try but be very cautious.

These infections have all kinds of ways to sneak into your system, what one program will stop another may not. Just keep your McAfee updated and run a scan at lest once a week.

Open OTL and click on Clean Up and it will remove programs we used to clean your system along with there backups

How did I get infected in the first place ?
Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
