View Full Version : Click.GiftLoad not being removed.

Hi - I am new to the forum and I know its cliché but I require some help. I have the Click.GiftLoad and can’t get rid of it. Recently i keep getting redirected when i search things on google and my browser keeps crashing (I believe that was a firefox problem though (and a re-install of FF seems to have fixed it).
I have installed spybot S&D that detected the malware, it removed most of it successfully but it appears Click.GiftLoad isn’t budging.
I’ve successfully removed it within safe mode (or so I though), then removed it in normal (again, so I thought) – then used TDSS successfully as that has worked for me in the past and was my weapon of choice on previous computers (again, again so I thought it was clear but it came back). But it appears to be fully in there!
Please find below my DDS report and below that my spybot report

Hi ian.wheeler,

Welcome to Safer Networking. My name is Blottedisk and I will be helping you with your malware issues.

Please subscribe to this topic, if you haven't already. You can subscribe by clicking the Thread Tools box to the top right of your topic title and then choosing Suscribe to this Thread (then choose Instant Notification by email). If the button says Unsuscribe from this Thread, then you are already subscribed.
Please avoid installing/uninstalling or updating any programs and attempting any unsupervised fixes or scans. This can make helping you impossible.

The forum is busy and we need to have replies as soon as possible. If I haven't had a reply after 3 days I will bump the topic and if you do not reply by the following day after that then the thread will be locked due to inactivity. However, if you will be away, let us know and we will be sure to keep the thread open.

We are not facing a file-infector virus, so there won't be a problem to backup your data once I state your machine is clean and ready to go.

Please follow these steps in order:

Step 1 | Please download aswMBR (http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.exe ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR icon to run it.
Vista and Windows 7 users right click the icon and choose "Run as administrator".
Click the Scan button to start scan.
When it finishes, press the save log button, save the logfile to your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z454/Blottedisk/aswMBRscan-1.png (http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z454/Blottedisk/aswMBRscan.png )
Click the image to enlarge it

Step 2 | Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:

Main Mirror (http://gmer.net/download.php ) - This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
Zipped Mirror (http://gmer.net/gmer.zip ) - This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
Temporarily disable any real-time active protection (http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=96260 ) so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.

Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/gmer_zip.gif

GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
Make sure all options are checked except:

IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive, which is typically C:\
Show All (This is important, so do not miss it.)

http://i582.photobucket.com/albums/ss269/Cat_Byte/GMER/gmer_th.gif (http://i582.photobucket.com/albums/ss269/Cat_Byte/GMER/gmer_screen2-1.gif )
Click the image to enlarge it

Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm ).

Step 3 | Please download MBRCheck.exe (http://ad13.geekstogo.com/MBRCheck.exe ) to your desktop.
Be sure to disable your security programs
Double click on the file to run it (Vista and Windows 7 users will have to confirm the UAC prompt)
A window will open on your desktop
if an unknown bootcode is found you will have further options available to you, at this time press N then press Enter twice.
If nothing unusual is found just press Enter A .txt file named MBRCheck_mm.dd.yy_hh.mm.ss should appear on your desktop.
Please post the contents of that file.

Hi -

before I do any that you suggested, To show to the boss I was being proactive - earlier today - I should let you I performed a scan in safe mode, "fixed selected problems". this said again it had solved the click.giftload error. I have just completed another scan in normal mode and it's not there any more. I have attached the scan report (i know i have cookies in there but can deal with them).

Do you think i should still follow your previous post?

kind regards

Hi,

Before we continue let me ask you: is this a company computer? Please have a look at the following thread and see if this applies:

Hi - it is my personal computer (laptop) but very occasionally I use Photoshop for my work (and I needed to ensure those files were safe due to the size of them). I hope I have not infringed on the forum rules, and if I have I am sorry.

Hi,

It's ok then.

So you could remove this infection in safe mode with Spybot. Anyway, please continue with my last set of instructions (starting by aswMBR).
