Hi there

I have been infected with malware called command(or cmd)services and I can't delete it through the usual means. In addition to this, I have no desktop, no start menu or toolbar. So when I boot, it goes to explorer.exe and displays folder contents which I can navigate around on, but my usual desktop is a background which has no functionality. Please could you help me? I will copy my hjt log below, which I hope may help. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you still need help, read about this one:
C:\Windows\system32\lsays.exe
O23 - Service: Local Network Connectoin - Unknown owner - C:\Windows\system32\lsays.exe
http://fileinfo.prevx.com/spyware/qqfb6833363773-LSAY21524073/LSAYS.EXE.html
If you wish to scan it use these free online scans:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

What I need from you to get started:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto
You are running in Selective Startup mode, I need to see all logs in Normal Startup Mode unless I request otherwise. Make that change and post a new HJT log.

Give me more information about command.exe...what program is finding it, where does it say it is located.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks for getting back to me.

I am finding the cmdservices through spybot and I have included the recent scan log below

In addition i have also put my new hjt log

Thanks for the information, I am not seeing a lot wrong in this log, remove this with HJT:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
You can remove these if you don't know what they are:O4 - Startup: Q-Bar.lnk = C:\Program Files\Q-Bar\QBar2.exe
O4 - Global Startup: LG SyncManager.lnk = ?
You are still running MSConrig in Selective Startup mode:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto
I can't really say I am seeing all running processes?

command.exe:
Please download and unzip Ren-cmdservice to your desktop.
It will only work correctly if the folder is placed on your desktop and extracted !!.
http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/ren-cmdservice.zip
Open the ren-cmdservice folder by doubleclicking it and then doubleclick the
ren-cmdservice.bat file to run the program.
A text will open when it is finished, Post it please.
Then restart the PC run spybot check for and fix any problems found.

This information will answer other Spybot questions:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/46.html

It is hard to say about the Desktop, a lot of these malware programs change it but nothing I have seen in the logs you have shown me. Here are some things you can try:

1) 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Display, click the Desktop tab, and then click Customize Desktop.
3. Select Restore Defaults

2) Right-click on the desktop
Click on the Properties item
When the Properties dialog comes up click on the Web tab
If Show Web content on my Active Desktop is checked then click on the page in the box below and click the Delete button
Uncheck the checkbox in front of Show Web content on my Active Desktop
Click the Apply button and then the Ok button

3) It could be possible, after reboot that the system is using the windows classic theme again.
To restore this and set it back to XP-theme, rightclick on your desktop > properties > tab Appearances and choose Windows XP style again under windows and buttons.
Click apply and OK.

Thanks...Phil

Thanks, no surprises hiding because of msconfig. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
