trojan name BackDoor-CVT

McAfee has detected this virus on my computer but it cannot quarantine, clean or delete this file..what do I do?
in my task bar there is a blinking circle that goes from blue question mark to red cross out..it says "virus alert" and "critical system error..." when I click on it..is this part of the virus itself as it always leads me to the same page trying to get me to download software.
how do I know it is safe to download and not part of the virus?
please help!!
