My son installed Bearshare. I uninstalled it. However something from it keeps showing up in the S&D scans. It will not remove as it says it is still in memory. I've tried taking the choice of letting S&D run at start up. Didn't remove. I've booted to safe mode and run S&D. Still won't remove.

Here is what S&D is reporting:

Bearshare: Class ID (Registry key, fixing failed)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{558EC983-BEDB-9168-B2DE-31DBF0EE543E}

So I've created a HighJackThis log file asking for help.

Thank you in advance.

Here is the HijackThis log file:

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I downloaded and ran the VundoFix program, but it did not find Vundo on my computer. No matter what I do to remove the Bearshare registry entry it will not go away. I've run Spypot in normal mode. When it said it was still in memory do I want to boot straight to Spybot, that did not get rid of it. I've run Spybot in safe mode. Still no luck.

Any other ideas?

Here again is what Spybot is reporting as a problem:

Bearshare: Class ID (Registry key, fixing failed)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{558EC983-BEDB-9168-B2DE-31DBF0EE543E}

Lets try a registry import to remove that item
Launch Notepad (not wordpad), and copy and paste the contents of the code box below into a new text file.
Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the quotes). Save as file type: All files (*.*) and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4
;
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{558EC983-BEDB-9168-B2DE-31DBF0EE543E}]
;

Now double-click on the fixme.reg file you saved and click on the Yes button when it asks if you would like to merge the information. Once you get a successful message delete fixme.reg.

Thanks. Followed you instructions. Then ran Spybot. Still there. Would it help to run the fixme.reg I created from safe mode? Or if possible from a dos prompt safe mode?

Safe mode wont help

Its a harmless key, unless you already know how to use regedit and can change the permisions on that specific key i suggest we/You not worry about it.
