I have the same problem as Kate_H (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=6066). I tried to follow what was happening in her post, but was lost as to how to fix it in the end. I followed the first instruction to rename Hijack This to HJT if it helps. If not, I have a log of it before I renamed it.

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hello Cyndi and welcome to the forum, sorry for the wait, logs are many and volunteers are few. If you still need help and are not receiving it at another forum, please do this.

First, it is important that you are careful when following fixes designed for others, they are tailored to their infection. Atribune's VundoFix needs to be run of the Desktop and you put it in the c:\windows\system32\VundoFix.exe. You may delete that copy because it needs a fresh download each time. If you still need help, I would like you to do this:

1) I suggest you get rid of this aol junk: C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exeSee this information: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/2005/nov4.php#viewpoint
Use Add Remove programs to uninstall it.

2) Your Java progam, which is probably the reason for this infection, is out of date. Update that program please. See this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

3) I see indication there may be a Smitfraud infection, please download and follow these instructions, post the report. Follow the directions carefully and leave the tool where you put it in case we need to clean with it.

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm (http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm)

4) Vundo is hard to remove, follow the directions carefully:
Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log, the results from SmitfraudFix and any comments you think will help.

Thanks...pskelley

Hi Cyndi, and you are surely welcome. You do have Smitfraud infection as noted in the items the fix "found", I will grive you instructions for clearing that and it looks like Vundo was removed also but I won't know until you post that HJT log.

Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log, the results from SmitfraudFix and any comments you think will help.

Use the directions in this link: http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php

Follow the instructions to run: Clean
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

and Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.

This information will apply once you run the optional: Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post that HJT log along with this report so I can see what is left to do.

Thanks...Phil
