View Full Version : Help in Removing "command.exe"

I am in need of help in removing the "command.exe" program and any other files associated with it from a friends computer. When I started working on his machine, he didn't have: Windows XP - SP 2, Anti-virus software, nor a clue (obviously). His computer is now up-to-date so now all I'll need to do (I hope) is get rid of "command.exe". I've tried getting rid of it in safe mode (which Spybot does), but it comes back when I normally boot up Windows.

Here's the HJT log:

Welcome to the forum

Post a combofix log
1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
If the log is large You might need to post half in one reply half in another.

Well, I ran the ComboFix program, but as soon as it gets to this screen:

It restarts the program from the beginning. Is it supposed to do that? This is all the log had in it:

What version of SpyBot is on that PC ?
Ensure all third party chat programs are the current versions, aim and yahoo messenger.
Update suns java manualy
Sun Java "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8" is Available:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Afterwards it's important to uninstall the old version's via addremove programs.

Looks good

Your still running an old version C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe

I turn its autoupdater off , its buggy and always has been.
you can do that via windows control panel java, after installing jre1.5.0_08
dont use the updates now from that control go to the website listed in the link i provided and download the current version.

Any questions ?
You can delete combofix, haxfix and killbox

How To Download and Extract the HOSTS file:

Repeat that proccess about once or twice a month

To help avoid reinfection see "So how did I get infected in the first place?"

I'm not the owner of this computer, so I'm trying to set it up so that all the important programs are automatically updated; I'll be going to school next month, so I won't have the time (or ability) to make trips to his house. I mentioned earlier that the last time any of his programs were updated was back in 2004; he also lacks the ability to discern between hazardous websites. Is there any program or website that will let him know what needs to be updated (besides Windows Update), and then tell him where to go to get the updates (or provide them on the site)?

In the mean time, I'll be passing on the information you gave me on the HOSTS files and the post on avoiding reinfection to him.

Thanks again for your time, help, and advice!:bigthumb:

I suggest you install the hosts file, that will put and end to visiting a majority of suspect sites.
There is no program i have found that can manage multiple program updates.
He could keep an eye on a forum that posts updates and subscribe to the threads that include his programs
