Jack&Jill. Hi. in the previous thread, i was still working on getting the computer protected..... and then you wrote: As your problems appear to have been resolved, this topic is now closed.
:
This does not seem to be the case: 1st, when I am trying to do the windows updates, the computer stops working and after several hours the only way to shut it down is to switch users and then turn off computer. I'm not even sure if the updates are working. Also, i needed to have microsoft office 2010 for school, which they supplied with authorization and download key, and here again when i go to install, it stops in the middle and for several hours, then i have to switch users to shut down.(I did fully uninstall all other versions of Microsoft office, or so I though) I was finally able to download microsoft office, and open all the programs, but when I go to save, it does not let me save....it just stops working and then does a forced shutdown, and also it won't let me add pictures.

When using internet explorer and i have more than 2 or more tabs up, or the system seams to stop functioning.

I was able to get winpatrol loaded on the machine (step 4--from the last fix).

The computer does take a little longer to boot up (2 min). And especially internet explorer takes 2-4 min to boot up. Am I doing something wrong? I would apparecate any additional help!

Thank you for any help.........Oh thank you, I did donate. you guys do great work, and i belive any support i can give back is not near enough compensation to all you tech's and all your help and guidence to keep us safe out there!:thanks:!!

Hello jhawke :),

Your last thread was closed after my usual practice of 3 days without any reply, but no problem for me to take a look if you still experience some problems.

Thank you for any help.........Oh thank you, I did donate. you guys do great work, and i belive any support i can give back is not near enough compensation to all you tech's and all your help and guidence to keep us safe out there!!! Thanks and you are welcome.

About Microsoft Office, I thought you did not touch it. It was uninstalled?

What you have just described appears to be abnormal. Please rerun DDS and post back DDS.txt.

--------------------

Please download MiniToolBox© by farbar and save it to your desktop. Click here. (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/MiniToolBox.exe)

Double click on MiniToolBox.exe to run it.
Please check (tick) the following options:
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click on the GO button. A log will open.
Please post the contents of this log. It can also be found on the desktop as Result.txt.

--------------------

Please post back:
1. fresh DDS.txt
2. MiniToolBox log

Thanks again for having a look at this. I can't say it enough that I do appreciate the help!:)

I wasn't going to touch the microsoft office, but School suggested that I put the new one on. So I uninstalled the one that I had. Downloaded the one from the School store, and installed Microsoft Office 10, per the directions from School.

Here is the MinitoolBox result & The DDS,
Thanks again. J Hawke

Hello jhawke :),

Please answer the following questions. They will help in identifying and troubleshooting your problem.

Are the Windows Updates for Microsoft Office only?
Are you updating before or after you uninstalled the original Office and before or after you installed the newer one?
Did you have Skype running when you are running Office applications?
What toolbars or Add-ons do you have on Internet Explorer?

--------------------

Do an online scan with BitDefender QuickScan.
Please be patient as scanning may take some time. If you have problem running the scan, you might want to disable any real time protection that you have.

Click here (http://quickscan.bitdefender.com/) to go to BitDefender QuickScan page.
For Firefox users:
Click on Free Scan Now. You will be prompted to install a plug-in. Please Allow.
A Software Installation window will appear. Click Install Now and the plugin will be installed as an Add-on.
Restart Firefox when done. Go back to the BitDefender QuickScan page again and click on Free Scan Now and proceed accordingly.
For Internet Explorer users:
Click on Free Scan Now. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX control. Please install.
The page will refresh. Click on Free Scan Now again and proceed accordingly.
When scan has completed, click on View report and a Notepad log shall open.
If there are any infections found, you will get a warning and the link to the report will be displayed as the number of infections. Click on it.
Post back the contents of this report. It can also be found at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\QuickScan, <username> is the Windows log-in name.

--------------------

Please post back:
1. the answers to my questions
2. the BitDefender quickscan result

Hello jhawke :),

It could be that the Windows Update's size was quite big or your connection speed is slow. If you have problems, you can always visit Microsoft's website to do manual update.

For Microsoft Office, I suggest you get in touch with your school's IT team to get some assistance. Appears to be out of my scope.

Please try to disable the Add-Ons of Internet Explorer, and enable them one by one to identify in case any is giving problems.

Here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/maintain/default.mspx) are some tips on maintaining your computer in tip top condition.

Besides that, your computer appears malware free. For non malware issues, you can visit the either of following sites to get further assistance.
Tech Support Forum (http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/)
What The Tech (http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?)
BleepingComputer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/)

You can even ask about the Office problem.

If you have further progress, appreciate if you can just drop me a reply so that this topic can be closed before you make a move to the sites that I recommended.
