Hello everyone... I recently began having a problem with SpyBot Registry box popping up after I reboot my machine. ie/ "SpyBot - Search and Destroy has detected an important registry entry that has been changed" Then I have 2 boxes to "allow" or "deny". This problem began after downloading and installing Google chat.

As soon as I hit DENY- I get another box and will do this about 20 times with i'm guessing my entire registry. After clicking through all of them and what appears to be finished.... As soon as I make a mouse movement- the box pops back up and I have to "allow" or "deny" all 20 again.

I did a system restore which temporarly solved the problem. I reinstalled Google chat- and I have the problem again. I'm guessing the 2 are related, but hoping for a workaround so I don't have to keep doing system restores.

Thanks for anyones advice.

Brian

Hello Brian,

If you install anything on your own you need to choose "Allow".
Please read this information about TeaTimer:
What is the Resident TeaTimer? (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/33.html)
and Why does Resident TeaTimer terminate the application before asking? (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/34.html)
If you surf the web and without any user interaction the TeaTimer pops up and warns about a registry change it is better to "deny", but if you install something by yourself it is OK to "allow" the change.
The tutorial (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/tutorial/index.html) (point 8) on our homepage should also help explaining.

Hello,

If you allow the entries that should fix your problem.

Can u explain to me why this is happening and it's never happened before. On reboot I have 20 enteries (many I don't recognize) and it makes me nervous just to "allow" something in my registry? You don't think these are threats? Of all my years using spybot - never have I had this happen. Why did this happen?
