View Full Version : Incompatibilities S&D and VIPRE

First of all I did a search and found 126 results for the word VIPRE.

Needless to say that's an error of the search option.

I'm wondering why the AV-firewall product with the name VIPRE (Sunbelt product), considers you as competition and as an Antivirus Product. It's seems impossible to install the product without removing S&D (which I don't want). I declined to go to the uninstall for S&D and continued with it's install and got an error cannot install drivers. Is there a way around ? I like S&D but I would like to use VIPRE too.

Are you aware of this ?

Hello,

The last version of Vipre Antivirus from Sunbelt Software was forcing to uninstall Spybot-S&D during their own installation process.
But there are no known compatibility problems. Please see here (http://support.sunbeltsoftware.com/index.php?title=Home_%26_Home_Office/1VIPRE_Antivirus_Premium/Spybot_Installation).

And here (http://support.sunbeltsoftware.com/index.php?title=Home_%26_Home_Office/2VIPRE_Antivirus/Spybot_Installation/Warning_Message).

You can avoid the uninstall in their installation wizard by pressing "Next" instead of "Go to uninstall" or "Show me how".
Then you will be asked "There are other Antivirus products still installed on your computer. Are you sure you want to continue?"
There press "Yes", then Spybot-S&D will stay on your computer.

In case you have uninstalled Spybot with Vipre, to get Spybot - Search & Destroy back, we recommend a fresh installation of Spybot-S&D 1.6.2 from here (http://188.165.126.152/files/spybotsd162.exe) .
If some parts would conflict, just those parts could be disabled.

That's the way to to disable the resident feature of Spybot - Search &
Destroy: run Spybot-S&D, switch to the "Advanced mode" via the menu bar
item "Mode" --> hit "YES" --> select "Tools" in the navigation bar on
the left --> "Resident" and there you can untick the check boxes in front
of the two tools.

Hope that helps. :)

Best regards

On one PC (Vista), and as I said above I continued the installation of VIPRE but at the end I got an error telling me it could not install drivers. So according to you that's not because I didn't uninstall S&D. OK so far.

On another PC (XP), I uninstalled S&D, and continued the VIPRE installation which finished completely.
You say I can still reinstall S&D on this one. I'll just do that and disable the tea-thing.

BTW am I correct that if the teatimer is disabled in S&D, I can still use f.e. the real-time protection of my SuperAntispyware Pro ?

In the meantime I wonder why this VIPRE didn't detect SuperAntiSpyware Pro (only the Pro has real-time protection).

Thanks 4 the quick reply.
