I've searched everywhere for this but can't find another instance so assume it's not already covered.

I am running an almost new Windows 7 64 bit machine (Professional, SP1).

I am trying to upgrade IE 8 to 9 (64 bit version) but the installer crashes as soon as it starts. This happens whether I let Windows pull the update or download and install manually.

The same happens occasionally just trying to open files in an Explorer window - Explorer is forced to restart.

The reason I think this is a Spybot issue is the error signature:

Problem Event Name: BEX64
Application Name: ienrcore.exe
Application Version: 9.0.8112.16421

The fault module file - SDHook64.dll - only exists on my machine in the Spybot library folder.

Searches have tried to steer me to problem with a dll file called SBHook64.dll involving Kaspersky A/V 6 (which I do run) but that file does not exist on my system.

Does anyone know why this Spybot library file might be causing these program crashes? Or has Windows pointed the finger at an innocent file?

Thanks.

I've found that sometimes I can use MSConfig to turn off all non-MS services and then install IE9. But it's simpler to just remove Spybot 2 beta, install IE9 and then reinstall Spybot 2 beta.

Or just install IE9 BEFORE Spybot2 beta.

Yes - that worked, thanks.

Interestingly since then the same fault was preventing Lotus Notes 852 client from installing so seems that dll is a barrier to a number of other installs.

I was able to confirm today that this same DLL also prevented installs of Poser 8 and Google Talk plugin (and it wasn't easy to find the problem either)

I have had to uninstall Spybot 2 in order to be able to install these applications.

Hope that helps track it.

Hello,

I would recommend to try the new Beta 4 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/news/2011-10-06.html).

Best regards

or better yet, just wait for either a Release Candidate or a final release of Spybot 2.0 to ensure that one doesn't interfere with either Explorer or IE9.
