My computer boots about halfway tthen just stops with a black screen and the cursor showing. I am able to start in safe mode.

Hi,

Run disk check (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-for-errors) on c: partition. When done post fresh dds logs (see if normal mode works if you let it load for 15 minutes).

Download and run Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) (http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/) and fix its findings. Leave the program installed so you'll stay alarmed about vulnerable components in future too.
