I use Spybot 1.6.2 for system reasons, and I wondered if it can be configured to block bad pages silently using the Tea Timer like it does for Internet Explorer? when that option is ticked of course.
Hello. :)
Resident sdhelper.exe is separate from Teatimer. There's a description of it listed here in the second paragraph:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/paragraphs/tutorial_resident.html
sdhelper can't be configured to block pages silently with Firefox,it isn't available for that browser.
However,if you've immunized Firefox, that will help to protect Firefox.
As an aside, there's a newer version of Firefox available,Firefox 6.0.2,if you'd like to check for downloads:

Thanks for the info, I can only use the Firefox version 3.6 due to operating system.
I have already immunised, and I have supplied an image here, can you tell me please if the figures look correct as I wondered why there are so many unprotected?
I have Firefox that I use as the default browser and also have I.E but don't use that very often.

You are running Windows 98?
No,those figures don't look correct.A lot are still unimmunized.
You could try reimmunizing the unprotected items.
Open Spybot, click Immunize.Uncheck the first 3 items listed in the window to the right, since those are already immunized, and leave the checkmarks beside everything else. Then click the Immunize button up top, with the green cross beside it,and see if it will immunize those items.
Please let me know how it goes. :)

Just tried that, and all that happens is the small grey bricks on the right build up and up but nothing else happens and the windows progress bar doesn't even move.
I then have to alt-ctrl-del as it then won't close normally.

Do you think the Spybot portable will help? I have downloaded it and put it on a USB stick, I was about to open it and try it from there, but I was unsure which folder to install to as the one that appears in the window doesn't work, it seems like I need to pick a folder on my computer, is that right?
Should I be installing the portable in the USB drive or on my PC? do you think it will make a difference installing this to help with the immunise problem?

Update. I have installed spybot on the USB drive and ran it from there and the immunise is still the same.
Sorry,I'm not familiar with portable Spybot,I've never used it yet.
I do remember having problems Immunizing the (Popups) part of Firefox immunization a long while back.If I remember it correctly,it hung on that, pretty much the way you described. So,maybe you could give this a try:
Open Spybot, click Immunize. In the window to the right, rightclick, and select "deselect all."Then, put a checkmark beside Global(Hosts),and then click the Immunize button up top, with the green cross beside it.See if Spybot will Immunize just the one item.If it hangs, just leave it for a little bit, maximum about 10 minutes. Please let me know how that goes. :)

Ok, I done as you requested, but I went a bit further and did them all one by one, and they all got immunised apart from the Popups and it just hang on that part.
I started with the global hosts and worked my way up, so all that isn't protected is the 15075 for the popups.
Is there anyway round this or is it a bug? is it anything to be concerned about?
EDIT, as I was typing I checked again and it protected the popups apart from one, but am I right that is because I had the browser open at the time?

Success, all protected now!
Now, do I need to put a tick in all those boxes again before closing the program? or do I just need to put a tick in a box relevant to when I see one that is unprotected?

Am I right in that if I am using the portable spybot from a USB stick then I will be unable to use the SD helper or the resident tea timer because I would need to have the USB stick in all the time as I tried removing it after I had set both the tea-timer and the SD helper and I was unable to remove the stick.
Now that I know how to get the immunise to work correctly I am wondering if perhaps I should install 1.6.2 again in my computer instead of the USB stick.
My very technical answer to that is.....I dunno! :D:
I'm unfamiliar with Portable Spybot,I've never had a chance to try it out yet,but yes, judging from the instructions for Portable apps here,I'd assume you would have to have the USB stick in all the time in order to use Teatimer:
http://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#using
You did uninstall the non-portable full version of Spybot from Add/Remove Programs before you installed Portable Spybot? :)

On the subject of un-install, I take it there is no un-install for the portable version, and would it just be the case of deleting it from the USB stick?
Also are all the settings from the immunisation held on the data stick and not the computer? I ask as if I wanted to install the normal 1.6.2 version on my PC again I am afraid it may mess with any portable settings already stored on the computer.

Just wanted to say that I have installed Spybot 1.6.2 on my computer and the immunising seems to work fine now, one thing I wanted to ask though, how do I check to see if the definitions are updating correctly? is there anywhere that tells me on the actual program what the current definition are?

Hello,
To see which version number and/or updates of Spybot - Search & Destroy you are using please run Spybot-S&D and choose "Help" --> "About" in the menu bar.
There you can see which version you have and which updates are installed.
It should be version 1.6.2 and the updates from the 2011/09/21.
Best regards

:)
I'm glad you were able to get everything fully immunized. :)
If you have the Portable Apps Platform or Suite, this shows how to delete an app:
http://portableapps.com/support/portable_apps_suite#removingapps
I also see on there that you can run an app standalone,I believe.Do you have the Portable Apps Platform?
Now, do I need to put a tick in all those boxes again before closing the program? or do I just need to put a tick in a box relevant to when I see one that is unprotected?
It's up to you.It might be easiest to recheck everything,in case there are updates to Immunization, that way if you need to Immunize again in the future,Spybot will do all the sections at once. That is what I always preferred to do.
You can retick all the boxes easily by rightclicking somewhere in the window, and selecting 'Select All.' :)

Do you have the Portable Apps Platform?
Not that I'm aware of. what actually is it?
Here it is:
http://portableapps.com/download
I assumed you got the Spybot Portable from that site, since it's the only one I've ever seen with a Portable Version of Spybot.
To uninstall the Portable Spybot, try navigating to the Spybot Portable program on the USB,rightclick, and if available, select Uninstall.hth. :)

Hi, yes I did as it said on that website when removing the portable app, all I needed to do was manually remove all that was related to the Spybot portable such as tea-timer etc in folders that the app had installed on my computer. there was nothing I was required to do on the USB that I was aware of.
I checked the app just now on the USB stick and there was no un-install on the right click menu so I assume everything is fine.
