Hello, last night Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on my vista laptop started 'shouting' about my laptop having caught a worm "Win32\Ainslot.A".

After 'quarantining' the wriggler I did a bit of googling and saw some mention of viruses giving false MSE warnings so I ran spybot on the laptop. Teatimer is on and has been on.

Spybot found nothing so I am in a quandry, am I uninfected and been led up the garden-path or did spybot not see through the quarantining or does spybot not detect this worm?

Thanks.

Hi! All_a_flutter,

You can download & install MalwareBytes' AntiMalware on your system from http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ it's listed as Shareware but the same installer will install the freeware version as well.

During installation leave all defaults in place so that updates are downloaded before the first launch of the program.

Perform a Full System Scan & fix any errors found. When your done you may post the logfile here; let us know if you need help posting the logfile.

Hello all_a_flutter,

Someone can take a look at the system if you start a topic in the Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22) where a volunteer analyst will advise when available. :)

First see that forum's FAQ which also includes instructions in post #2 on how to provide DDS logs, which are the logs used in the preliminary analysis.
"BEFORE You POST"(Please read this Procedure Before Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Best regards.
